You make it look pretty easy to open that lid. I could not safely open the lid on the case like you did....it's a terrible design. The LaCie Rugged has screws that can be used to open the exterior shell case which is so much more practical. I did not want to repurchase another LaCie mobile drive however I've tried other drives such as the Seagate One Touch and they did not work with my MacBook for some reason (LaCie works with MacBook no issues until the ports start giving out like yours did....my mobile drives only seem to last 2-3 years)

Heyy, yeah it's a bit tricky, you need a very thin tool. I used a knife, but I think with a very thin screwdriver you can do it too. Once you onpen it it's pretty straight forward, super worth doing it!

you need to reformat the seagate hardrives to the exfat format then they should work fine.

I don't know if you would know if this is possible, I have an older lacie external hard drive. It has firewire connection, i used it with an old mac desktop which now broke, so I got an old macbook pro which has usb, and it seems like there's no adapter or cable to convert firewire to usb, or at least they're said to not be reliable, sometimes not compatible either if you do find one. So, this guy in the computer store told me he had a similar problem and that it's possible to open the external lacie drive, unplug it and connect it to a usb casing, supposedly that the drive itself connects with something called SATA. I don't know what to do, I don't want to damage the lacie drive,it has some files on it that id want to keep, but the firewire connection has become useless with the macbook. Can you recommend anything? Thanks

I just found this video kzread.info/dash/bejne/q6h3r7p8e7WXcs4.html I'm pretty sure it should be the same thing. I believe all hard drives are actually SATA Drives first, then they have an adaptor to whatever connection it might be the trendy one (USB, USB-C, Firewire, etc). Have a look on KZread for other videos with the specific model of HD you have, you might find the answer. If not, try Google and last Google Images. A good search term for it is using the word DISASEMBLY next to your hard drive brand/model. Try that! Good luck!
