*Hey Jeff -* *As always, another great concise video w/out all of the loud & crappy background music that a lot of other YT creators use. ✓* *Tip:* although I'm all for cleaning/repairing carbs when needed, just know there are several cheap ($10-$20) carb kits (which often contain not only a brand new carb, but also possibly many other helpful parts such as a fuel shutoff valve, new fuel lines, gaskets, spark plugs, etc) that are sold on Amazon/eBay. Installing a new carb, etc. will often easily 'fix' any related carb issues just by simply swapping out the new one with the old. _And yes, I do know that's sort of 'cheating', but hey... they (carbs) have become so affordable now, that it could actually make more sense just to buy a new carb, rather than to spend a lot of time cleaning the old carb._ *BTW, about midway through the video... I caught that nice reference to that old classic movie... 'Anchorman'. LOL 😆*

Thanks for watching! New parts are sometimes a good way to go.. Although I am always leary of using cheap carburetors/parts because I have encountered many issues with them over the years. So I always try to use oem parts when I can. I messed up the Anchorman quote but I am happy someone knew my attempt at humor!

@@JeffsLittleEngineService _I completely agree about OEM being WAY more superior than these other 'wannabe OEM' parts (ALWAYS go w/OEM if the gap between OEM/NON-OEM is just a few dollars, though). But for most homeowners (aka non-pros), many times going the cheaper carb route is good enough, IMHO. Thanks again, Jeff!_

Serviced our daughter's mower ah couple of years ago, it was running but not great, drained the fuel cleaned the carb changed the oil, air filter and spark plug even sharpened the blade, filled the oil and fuel, all ready to go so I gave it pull and it's a little harder to pull than it was before I worked on it so I give it another and it starts and proceeded to grind up the old air filter that had found it's way under the mower, I look at my daughter and say alright then it's good to go, it still starts with one pull and runs like a champ

My lawnmower ran out of oil and I thought I had killed it, because the piston was stuck and I could not pull the chord anymore. Added some oil, unplugged the spark plug, moved the cutting blade (gives you a nice leverage to move the piston), and repluged the spark plug. It ran like new after that. Looks like these engines are quite idiot proof :)

It`s a nice tutorial! We hqve3 a very similar model from "Toro" with nearly the same Briggs engine. The difference is... the carburetor is made of black plastic. The bottom part is fixed by two screws and, yes, id does have a very similar central bolt (plastic as well). I thought it is for fuel drain only and did not take it off to clean. Can you tell me whether this plastic one has the same mail jet inside, please?

Good to hear from you M Gomez, it's been awhile. Taking the tank off is a good way to do it too. As long as you don't leave it on it's side for too long, there is no oil infiltration into the air filter.

  • @Trades46

Easier to clean this than the newer Briggs & Stratton with the plastic carb units which are needlessly complicated and have a ton of holes in the jets to clean out.

Just saying Jeff . its not good to turn the mower over with gas tank on the down side . its real ez to ruin an air filter that way . because of the engine oil draining in to the carb . the fuel line is fairly accessible to drain the fuel tank by leaving the unit on its wheels . but hey your call .

Definitley can cause a problem if you leave it on it's side for too long. I have never had a problem with oil infiltration from a quick tipover when emptying the gas tank.

3rd Rookie mistake not taking the pull starter off completly and clean and dust and grass and lubricate the pull starter upside down so you no youve lubed it properly not half arsed, and still you didnt remove plug lead for saftey and then after a fresh airfilter instale you turned the mower on the wrong side possibly soaking the new filter with oil. Gees mate do us Aussies have to teach you the basics, first thing you do is saftey remove the plug leed !!!!
