How to fix Sun Damaged Paint

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

In this video I will take you through the process of repairing and painting this Ford Focus with some extensively sun damaged paint, we'll start by looking at the damage and making a decision on how we best go about the job.
In this instance we had to paint the bonnet/hood, the roof and also the tops of the quarter panel pillars otherwise known as cant rails.
Now we know what we're doing it's time to get stuck into it, I ended up finding some unrelated damage in the center of the bonnet and also some stone chips that for the sake of maximum 20 minutes work we may as well fix while it's in the shop and getting painted.
So a small repair later and some sanding I take it in the booth for a few coats of a good quality 2k primer to seal down all the areas we cut thorough while sanding, I am using Concept paints HS primer with the Airgunsa AZ3 1.8mm primer gun.
After leaving the primer over night, alternately can be baked, we are right to start our prep work, then clean it down and give the spray booth a good clean too before going in to mask it up, next up we'll give the whole thing a wipe down with silicone remover, tackrag then start painting.
The colour is called Titanium Grey paint code TG, I will be using Concept paints No-Mix basecoat and Cromax 696S 2k clear over the top, all using one of my personal favorite spray guns the DeVilbiss SGK 600-BV 1.4mm or FLG5 as its known as in some parts of the world.

I think a lot of the reason you're so popular Gunman, is due to your honesty and being down to earth. So many people become 'heroes' in their own mind when they get popular and wouldn't have the time of day for most followers unless they're getting praised. It's great that you show mistakes and that you're human too, which has appeal for all of us trying to paint better. Best of luck for the future, the channel is only going to get bigger. Keeping it real , bro. 👍

I have to admit i agree! Because you show it as it is, people follow you for the truth and how and what to do, not because you make things look fresh but because you do it in a way that makes it easy to understand !

Been watching your videos for a few years now, great work m8 glad to see a journeyman share his talents and experiences while being rewarded. You've helped me with clear blends and managing my time and materials with repairs and im a body guy! Plus your gun reviews are informational and honest. I like finishing my mud work in 240 or 320 just to help the painters out a bit. What techs dont realize is we're all here under the same roof working amongst each other for the same goal, earning a living by producing high quality work!! no egos, just ship it!!!

My old VR Commodore had sun damaged paint, the roof being the worst affected, bonnet and boot was not bad, but still faded. Took it to a panel beater who was not very interested, so decided to leave it, sold it and have a VY which has not suffered any damage yet. The VR was Dove Silver in colour and the panel beater said that was the worst colour. Great video.

I have watched this video about 50 times hahaha... thanks to you, I have attempted this myself and was happy with the results. I'm baffled at the 103 thumbs down as this is one of the most comprehensive and 'honest' (as other have said) channels. It's not like you are taking tens of thousands of dollars away from the professionals... maybe 1% but more like .05%. I did this because I was interested in it and found it challenging. This take a lot of work and even with your amazing videos, there is so much work involved. You really make it look easy hahah! I just primed and it came out well... a few 'newbie' mistakes... tape came up while painting in a few spots (maybe get better tape) and had a few drips from the flag4 gun @ 1.8 (thinking I had her opened up a little too much on the flow) but it sanded out fine. Now for the base/clear with blends! Thanks man... you make this shit fun. Now time to go paint some more shit! You rock!

Great video Gunman. The sun damaged paint was particularly relevant as my dad and I took on repairing the same on his Jag (XJV8). The bonnet, roof and boot lid had suffered quite badly. This was the second paint job I have undertaken since being inspired by your vids. Overall it came out fine despite not having a booth etc. If I hadn't seen your videos (warts and all) I don't think I would accepted the challenge. Keep up the good work and thanks for your channel.

I enjoy your videos. I'm .gonna try and repair the clear coat on my older Dodge Stratus. Its still a nice car but it's a 2003. Not my main car but still a sporty looking and yet roomy car with leather and I can take my daughter out with her friends and it still looks upbeat for a sedan Lol. Its gold and I got clear coat sun and weather damage starting to show now on the top and trunk deck lid. I think the bonnet or hood as we say looks fine but in a short time it will be the same faded state as the roof and trunk. It needs a repaint too. I thought I might try to do a repair on it. I've painted some but many years ago. It's metallic gold . I think it",s gonna have to have some color put back on the top for sure. You inspired me to get it done or attemp to repair the clear coat. I got a knowledgable buddy to help me. He's been painting for 60 years..He's retired and did a lot of custom work. Street Rods and restorations were his niche them he went mass pro and started doing clear coat upgraded. He loved doing those fast and furious and incredible looking to see the owners faces with appreciation and amazement of the talent and skill in his work. I see that in you and the one thing that set him apart, sets you apart as well. It's the enthusiasm. The entuhusuam you show with the energy you give off is positive and enjoyable. Thanks for making your videos. I love your wit, honesty and wisdom. Thanks! Enjoyed it. Great job! Keep the videos coming . We love them.

Jeez, started with a minor service DIY, and then to engine mounts, ignition switch, straight to the entire gasket set change for my Chrysler. Jeez, this video now is enticing me to learn fixing sun damage myself on my black Chrysler but there is a lot to learn about tools needed first, sanding, 180 or so grade sandpaper, spray guns and all .....Wow! Love your job man!
