Watch as I attempt to DIY fix my squeaky stairs. Turns out to be a larger project than just fastening the tread down to the stringer, because there is no stringer as I found out. In part 1 of this job, watch as I demolish the sheetrock to gain access to the underside of the stairs so I can begin to reinforce the treads in step 2 as you see in this video.

Hey…. the “construction screws “are for particle board- they specifically say not for structural projects…. Stairs are structural

Very useful so far. Is there a step 3? Very interested to see how it worked out as I have exactly the same problem. I have chickened out of doing it so far but it needs to be done. Thanks.

Hey Steve, I have a little more footage of the third day but it’s more of the same as step 2. I have not yet edited the video for step 3 since I lost focus and the squeaks have been cleared up. My stairs see a lot of traffic with my friend staying on the second floor so I don’t think the construction adhesive had enough time to properly set on two of the steps, I need to go back and touch those up but all in all, I would say this job is done and was a success. I also feel a lot more comfortable knowing no one will fall through should a step fail. I also need to do the light and I may also skip redoing the drywall on the ceiling, but I haven’t decided yet.
Use Simpson stair angle brackets
Can i use Spray foam!? I know it is a great adhesive too, and it has a "spongyness" to it so as to absorb impact?

Spray foam would certainly help at first but I imagine it will compact over time with the weight of stepping on it if there’s wiggle room prior to spray foaming.
