Great video. I came here wondering if I need to do anything more than clean and lube the pins and hinges. Like other commenters, I prefer graphite powder over the 3-in-1 product. That was old graphite powder that you cleaned off (starting at 0:26). I'll probably use stiffer round brush instead of Q-Tips, and I'll probably use mineral spirits instead of WD-40 -- but the principle is the same. Thanks for making and posting this great video!

Another great product to use is Stabil's rust stopper, penetrates, seals and lubricates or so it says. I use it to stop rust on under carriage of my truck during the winter months, shot it onto my front door hinges 2 years ago and no squeak since.

Great walk through. I'm old school and was always taught to use powdered graphite as the lubricant because any sort of oil or other liquid is inevitably going to attract and hold dust making the squeaks come back sooner. You have find powdered graphite at the home improvement store, most good hardware stores or Amazon. Another advantage of powdered graphite is that is is tredemous for lubricating locks. I put in new locka a while back and after about a year it took substantial force to turn the key. One or two sprays of the powdered graphite in the key hole and the locks have worked smoothly for probably five years now.

That black dust is graphite power, the previous dry lube. Edit: I'd probably use mineral spirits rather than waste WD-40 for cleaning, but I'll prolly just clean dry. WD-40 is not a lubricant. The garage door cleaner is a dry lube, any other PTFE spray will work, However I might just go back to graphite powder as it's what they used when they built the house. You must use graphite powder for locks, probably why theynuse it for hinges over PTFE.

The WD 40 for this application was just a de-greaser. You can use anything that can thin out the grease and dirt that may be inside of the hinge. Carb cleaner could work. Maybe even a heavy solution of dawn dish washing liquid and water.... although that would likely take you longer.

I rarely have squeaky hinges and found the best and cheap way to fix it is to use olive oil.I cook with it so don't need to buy some expansive product to fix it.

So I tried to get the pins out using the Same method you did but with a wrench and a nail, but the pin didn’t even seem to budge. Do you think that the top of the pin could be glued down to the hinge?

Excellent video! Thank you for sharing. My only feedback would be with a little editing you could easily reduce the length of this video by about half or more and still communicate all the relevant information. Especially if you had a little bit of superimposed text for product recommendations or lengths of time for each step. There is a lot of idle time that's all.

My kitchen cabinet hinge cap at the bottom is so tight against the hinge that I am having difficulty grasping it with pliers. I tried to chisel at it with a flathead and hammer, but too tight for that. It also doesn't help that the screws holding the hinge to the cabinet wood is soft, so it strips when I barely apply pressure with a screw driver. I guess I need to order an extraction tool to get the hinge off, then I might have better luck getting the hinge cap off. *sigh*

  • @flannelguydiy6458

if the hinge screws are pulling away from the soft wood then you have bigger problems which should be solved before dealing with squeakie hinges

@@flannelguydiy6458 The hinges aren't pulling away, it is flush against the wood. I meant that the two screws holding the hinge are getting stripped when I put a screwdriver to it (the metal of screw head seems to deteriorate against the screw driver if that makes sense).
