Hey bro, Should I sand and smoothen the plastic before priming them? Or is it better to prime first and then sand them smooth?

Will this work with textured ABS used in automotive body panels like side skirts and bumper covers? I’ve got a project I’m working on where I’d like the car to all be a single color as opposed to the paint and black plastic look that it came standard with and I’m looking for options to make this happen as the plastic used is slightly textured and needs the texture removed for this to work.

Yes you can do this on ABS plastic as well to get them smooth prior to color matching them.

Great question. I want to remove the glossy texture on my black ABS front spoiler. Go to a satin or even slight gloss

I am interested in your product line. I have some automotive paint experience but only with European classics. So, no experience prepping & painting plastic parts. I see your adhesion promoter but I do not see any other mention of "Plastic" or "Flexibility" in the descriptions for your primer/sealers or top coats. Is this because flexible additives or "special paints for plastics" is no longer necessary? I have always been under the impression that painting on plastic required a whole different process. Perhaps the times have changed. I have a couple of side-by-side UTVs that I am restoring and the hoods in particular are made of plastic and do flex quite a bit when being opened and closed so flexibility is important. Can you recommend which of your products would be a good choice for my project?

For plastics the adhesion promoter does help with adhesion but the other products are not designed for extreme flexibilities. We have done number UTVs in the past and the products we offer do well but we also educate customers and do not do any jobs where it is extensive flexibility as the clear coat will not conform.

@@LiquidConceptsUSA Than you for your comment. I truly appreciate your honesty here. Since it is a UTV with a traditional, non-metallic, forest green finish I wonder if I could get away with just the adhesion coat followed by the green topcoat and no clear (?)

@@PJ-ee5mc I would not recommend this. You will need a top coat for protection and I would still recommend a primer after adhesion promoter to ensure you get proper adhesion
