How To fix Peeling Paint On A Car Cheap And Easy

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

If you have peeling paint spots on your car or truck, and you want to keep them from rusting, this video shows you how to quickly paint over them for less than $10. I show you the cheap and easy way to paint over peeling paint spots on your car or truck. This doesn’t look great, but it looks good enough if you have an old car. The most important thing you need to do if you were going to paint over the peeling paint spots or chipped paint on your car is buy the exact same color paint as your car. If you match the paint color really well, then even if you do a sloppy job, the car will look good. This is easy paint repair that is much better than doing nothing. It doesn’t look as good as a professional paint job, but it will keep your car or truck from rusting until you can get it painted the right way.
Here is where to buy the paint I used in the video:

    Spray pattern should stop and restart at the edges. If you keep the button pushed continuously while you move back and forth then you build up too much paint during the transitions. And it is recommended to apply light even coats, let dry, then do again. You put way too much paint on the first coat.

    @@hoohoohoblin Yes, I tried this fix with rattle cans on an old (no resale value) car a few years ago and the result looked equally as bad, disappointing and ugly. It also peeled off a bit with a high pressure car wash. In retrospect, I've seen better looking 50 feet results using rubberised slightly textured paint using a paintbrush/roller, after fixing rust spots with rust killer and using a textured filler/primer over the entire car.

    U could paint this whole truck with a similar rustoleum blue, a clear coat and buff it out to look pro for like $100 in an afternoon if you just prep it right by sanding all the old paint and properly priming it. It would be an easy project for a father and son on a nice spring day during a pandemic.. as long as you've got masks!

  • @BilgemasterBill

    @BilgemasterBill

    4 жыл бұрын

    Yup. Rust-Oleum really is the brand for a semi-decent homemade rattle-can paint job. The better you prep the better it'll look. To hike that up a notch, a little wet-sanding with some 1200 or 1500 grit between coats, then wait a month or so, bring out the polishing compound and then wax, and you can make it look pretty fantastic for something you did in the driveway.

    hoohoohoblin - apply build up primer to that spot that’ll build it up to the level of the surrounding paint. It may take multiple coats and you may have to wet sand. Then spray paint that spot only. 1 coat every 10 minutes at a time. Once you get the color down let it dry, then gently scuff the whole hood and apply clear coat to the whole thing.

    Oof, I'm guessing this is a work truck. But if you paint, please feather the edges with 120 - 300 grit sand paper, then if you have bare metal, get some etching primer and put a film of that on first. Let dry, then add some sealant primer or sandable/filler primer. Sand it down with 600 grit with light to medium light pressure. Stop sanding once you see the etching primer show through. Clean everything up nice and clean with denatured alcohol/rubbing alcohol/wax or grease remover and a tack cloth (they're dirt cheap). Then just spray two light coats and one medium coat of paint. 10 minutes between coats. Then add another medium coat if you're still seeing primer. Let dry 10 minutes. Then get some 2K Clear Coat, and do two dry coats, then one or two wet coats. Body work and paint is an art form and a true test of patience! I'm not going to dislike because a ton of people just stare at the work they have to do then run away to mommy.

    I’m doing this too, so far I filled flake holes with a few coats of primer already, should I just blend the edges now, the primer is sitting a mm or so below the paint, after 8 passes. Not sure if I need more primer or if the paint & lacquer will fill the gap

    At least feather the edges and it would look much better. You're going to have to redo it in a few months.

    You’re right. I did the absolute minimum in this case. I just want to stop the rust until I have time to get it done right.
