Thanks, it's exactly what I needed. Simple fix, that hole was so deep, I thought I'd lost the small screw. You even told me the size of the wrench. Just wish I'd found and watched this before I took the handles off!

This video made all the difference. It took me awhile, but I finally got the thing apart and back together again. And, it works!

LOL Like so many others have stated here, I tried to figure out why I was unable to turn the thumb lock on the door knob to my garage and figured I would have to remove the whole knob and lube it...or something. After removing one of the handles I got stymied and got the idea to check youtube. This was my issue! I did have a lot of trouble getting the allen wrench to fit properly in the outside handle to fix the problem, but after removing both handles from the door, I was able to tighten the outside handle and fix this problem. Thanks!

I couldn't lock my door anymore and the outside door handle also fell off. I was just about to buy a new lock and get additional keys made, when I saw your video. Thanks to it I was able to fix this Weiser SmartKey lock. The only trouble I had was, no Allen-key or any other screwdriver fit that little bolt. I ended up using a "very sharp" watchmakers screwdriver and some oil to twiddle that little bolt in and out. THANK YOU!!!

May have been metric, they initially did metric sizes but changed it later. Also, easily can be stripped. Glad we could help!

you may have had one of those early "halfway between metric and standard" sizes

Thanks. Before fully assembling the set, I tried the lock and IT WOULD NOT TURN!😢 If I had just installed it without thinking, it would work fine. The set screw wouldn’t let it lock. Thanks!

Could you help me figure out this problem on a knob instead of a lever? I don't have the knob in front of me (long story) but I don't think it has a set screw since there's no need to reverse a knob like you would with a lever. Any ideas why it stopped locking or is there something else that get's loose/stuck? It's a kwikset smartkey keyed entry knob. Thanks!

I just had to drill to get to the set screw on one of these. It was broken on the inside somehow and I couldn't get the handle off. It was broke as hell anyway and being replaced, but made for a good challenge to get it apart.

I’m glad this worked for everyone else but I have a brand new handle that won’t lock or unlock at all and this didn’t fix it. Any other suggestions?

Do the deadbolts with double locks work like that too ?

What can you advice. The door handle lever type still opens even you lock it

Is it possible to modify this type of lock to act as a Panic - it unlocks when you turn the inside handle? like a residential version of a commercial bathroom lock?

Difference Engine even the current kwikset brands don’t do that. Schlage brand do (see a recent video of ours) however it uses a different style of key and cannot be made the same. If you have just 1-3 doors, I’d highly encourage upgrading as they are best on the market at the moment

I thought this would fix the same issue for me, but I have a slightly different cause for this problem. There is a bit of play in the lever of my Kwikset. The weight of the lever causes a slight drop which doesn't allow the lock to fully turn (thumb turn or key) unless I physically lift the lever a little. I will be checking out your long video to see if there is some way of tightening up the play to keep the lever at dead horizontal.

@@selock Thanks so much for the quick response. You called it! I removed the handles and the ends of the spring that should be pointing in the opposite directions and keeping the whole assembly from turning were just flopping around. The spring was broken. I could pull one of the pieces easily out. So I opened up the box of an new identical handle, swapped out the keyed side, and rekeyed it to match what I is currently on our key rings. Now the next question I have is, "What exactly does Lifetime Warranty mean?" Do you think that Kwikset will send me a replacement spring? Will I even be able to get in there and replace it so that I can use this handle on the door I bought this box for? I will find out tomorrow.
