The flip toggle with zip tie hold are amazing. You place the toggle first, zip it tight, then you can pull the same bolt in and out incase you need to re adjust anything.

How do you remove them when you no longer want an anchor in your wall?

4:52 -- It's also worth warning viewers to be careful using these toggle bolts near known electrical lines in the wall or where lines commonly are. You can accidently pinch the line and damage yourself or the line, especially if working near a stud. If you have one of those contactless voltage testers it can often be used to scan the work area for live wires.

I love the Easy Anchors. There is also an Easy Anchor designed specifically for hollow doors.

Good information for those that weren't forced by their parents to assist in home repairs when they were kids. And there are many more out there than I realized. My kids have confessed to me that they hated "helping" me when they were kids but were so grateful once they were out on their own and dad wasn't around to fix something. Great information! Simple job but a great confidence builder. Mandatory channel for kids in high school!

The plastic anchor is mainly for solid more rigid surface & with pre-drilling. like cinder block or concrete or even wood surfaces. It is NOT recommended to be used on drywall applications. While it may hold for a while, it will not be long before it becomes loose. All of course depends on the prep process but strongly do not recommend it on drywall.

Great video -- just installed in a toggle bolt for the first time thanks to this helpful guide.

I keep a few 3-4" by 1/8 toggle bolts in my toolbox for hanging 4' lights in the kitchen. It's easier to install when the fixture is allowed to dangle a little while before doing the final tightening.

Ty! Was finishing up a bathroom job and last thing was a toilet paper holder and there were no studs and thought toggle bolt but customer was unsure so gonna show this video to them tomorrow! Thanks for sharing

I have this problem often and it's always so frustrating to get something hung independently and then realize it's not holding properly, especially when I'm doing things like hanging shelves for my toddler. Hope this solves everything 🙌🏼🙌🏼

I've had EZ-anchors strip out in the wall. Then you're stuck with an even bigger hole. It's over-kill. but sometimes I've used "WingIts" . These are the 600 pond gorillas of wing-nuts. They require a 3/4" hole. They will hold up to 300 lbs. They are used sometimes to put grab-bars in drywall near showers.

Agree on the Loctite for sure! But I always add a drop or two of Loctite blue to my toggle bolts too.

I had a loose anchor, the big one that showed, found a product on amazon called Wall plug mate from a company named Cleanse...I was very skeptical...but I was seriously amazed. The product works really good, it was to fix a hand towel rack, we use it eveyday and many times a day, its hasn't moved since then.

Tip for EZ anchors, I use them a lot on commerical jobs and the drywall is typically pretty thick, the pilot hole you want surprisingly large. So I often use a Phillips #2 on an impact for my pilot hole maker. I even spin the tip around a good bit until the drill has little resistance. Then I wipe off the drywall from the tip and gently put the metal anchor with the impact (not over doing it)

I've been using E-Z Anchors/Dry Anchors and Toggle Bolts for a long time. There are a wide selection of each type. Sometimes I use a metal E-Z Anchor and sometimes plastic, depending. E-Z Anchor makes a Drywall Toggle Anchor that is heavy duty and locks in place so can reuse the screw. I used the ones made for 100 lbs to mount 2 slotted, height-adjustable shelving brackets and two 18" board supports to hang a 48" dual fluorescent light fixture over my work desk from for computer repairs. I cut the brackets (if that's what they're called) to ~6" lengths to mount and hold the shelving racks (without a board) to suspend the light fixture by two 1/8th inch nylon ropes in downward V-shapes, with the V locked in at the outer tips and each end attached to each side of the light fixture. The brackets had to be cut short because one of them is over a window, but I would have made them that short anyway. Two heavy duty E-Z Anchor Drywall Toggle Anchors per 6" vertical bracket and this rig ain't going nowhere.

I like and used Molly bolts. They expand like toggle bolts but you c-an be remove the screw without losing wing nut inside the wall.

This reminded me I had some easy anchors in the garage!

I never use anything but the ez anchor style of anchor, they always work and they work well.

As an industrial maintenance technician, I've installed hundreds of things on sheetrock walls. I've tried multiple types of anchors. My preference for hanging items weighing less than 50 lbs is the plastic poly toggle. There's a KZread video on the Original Toggler brand poly toggles explaining the installation and how to recess and patch drywall if you decide to remove the item installed. In many years of installing and later moving/ removing all kinds of things on factory walls the poly toggles were easy/quick to install, wouldn't rotate when unscrewing hardware during removal, leaving a large hole to patch. After removing the installed picture, shelf...etc, no need to remove the poly toggle.Simply hammer it a fraction of an inch into the drywall, and fill with mud. This leaves a much smaller hole to patch. Poly toggles are inexpensive, easy to use, save time and labor. My preferred method of installation was to punch a starter hole with an awl, enlarge the hole to the correct size using a #3 Phillips screwdriver. By using these tools, no need to carry a heavy drill. Poly toggles come in different sizes for multiple thicknesses of drywall. I've used them on 3/8", 1/2" and 5/8" sheetrock. So far, for hanging light to medium weight items, I haven't found anything better. To clarify, this is the push style poly toggles, not the screw in type.

There is also loctite purple which is the least aggressive formula.

Part of the problem with split plastic anchors is they do not automatically split, you have to split them partially outside the wall or the connector will not split by itself, once you split them, they will open up nicely inside the wall, and a blob of Elmers glue on the end will help the sheetrock stay together !

Most of the homes I work on have plaster walls so the easy anchors don’t work. I prefer using the Toggler Alligator anchor AF6. Doesn’t seem to spin like the cheap ones even in drywall. For damaged drywall holes I find that I use the Toggler anchor with the red plunger that grabs from the backside. I’m not a big fan of the metal toggle bolts as these are a really pain to remove later. Still thanks for the video

Put a good dab of construction adhesive on that mounting plate for the towel rack, and then use the EZ-Ancor. With the Loctite on the set screw, that is a very secure, strong rack. Also it's even more ideal to make sure one end of the rack lines up with a stud.

Damn, I ALWAYS have issues with drywall anchors. I just tried again recently and they're loose. The initial grip on the anchor has a little too much depth than the wall offers. I'm definitely buying the quick anchor 😁👍

This was so helpful, thank you! How much weight can 1/8 toggle bolts safely hold? I used 6 of them in total to replace the anchors that came with a cat wall furniture bridge I just put up and it seems very secure but just want to make sure my 10 pound cat is safe to walk around up there. I used nylon butterfly anchors with drywall.Just make sure you take long enough screw to reach the very tip of the anchor through the thing you are handling

I hung a shelf alone with L-brackets using Molly bolts in drywall. About 1/2 hour after putting books on it, the whole thing came down. Two of the four mollies never expanded! I'm going to try wingits. I can't imagine getting 4 toggle bolts into the wall behind those brackets and keeping tension while supporting the shelf and screwing them in without help. I'm a 75 year old woman, and my family and friends here are older than me and have health issues. I need to be able to set the anchors and then place the screws through the brackets.

Have you test the 3M claw drywall hanger? Very interesting to see how it compare to all these holes damage in the wall

Just went a purchased some easy anchors to fix a towel rack. When I removed the towel rack I found that was already an easy anchor there and was what was pulling out from the wall. Is there something I can put in the hole so that I can install a new easy anchor? Thanks so much for you helpful videos!

I had the same issue with two of our towel racks. I’m not sure if these are good over the long run for things that are subject to dynamic loads. I just replaced two of these plastic anchors on two different towel racks with EZ Ancor Toggle Anchors.

Yeah, our house has one toilet paper holder that has been loose since we moved in. Nearly a year later I’m finally getting to it because it’s been driving my husband crazy. Only lucky me, it turns out they installed the two pieces just a few mm too close together so that when you close it (it’s the kind you lift to put the roll on) it won’t nest together properly,p. The screws can be tightened but wiggle loose as soon as I try to put the thing back on (we decided if it doesn’t wiggle we don’t care if it closes all the way). So I’m gonna see if I have some extra EZ anchors and can figure this out.

Can you take out a ez anchor and put in a new one. I have one that didn’t work right. The screw stopped going in about half way then just started to turn the anchor. So thought maybe could just put in a new one ?

Ever use the swpeet arrowhead style hammer in anchor. That leave little slit in wall when removed. If so how they compare to the ez anchor. As they leave a big hole

Next guy is going to find blackbeards treasure of toggle nuts in my walls.

Thanks for your videos really helps, but I have a case for ya 🤣 what to do or use if there are like a wobbly metal sheet that metal screws don’t grab and the space between the drywall and that wobbly metal does not let the toggle bolt wings open behind the drywall 🙃 I’m assuming the wobbly metal is either flat metal or loose stud

The small plastic anchors shown at the start are not meant to be used on drywall, but on brickwork or masonry, which is a lot more common in Europe.

I have a ceiling mount for a projector that I had previously mounted at a different apartment. I don't have the original hardware as it was spent up at the old location. What type of fastener would you recommend for ceiling mounting? I have some of the metal drywall anchors but I've never used them vertically before.

First preference would be to find a joist in the ceiling to try and secure the bracket to solid wood. If you need additional support a 1/4" toggle bolt might not be a bad option.

2:33 -- For such small screws I actually recommend purple Loctite, which is a low strength liquid thread locker specifically for small fasteners. There are four types of common name-brand Loctite: 1) Red Loctite -- high strength for heavy duty applications with med/lrg fasteners 2) Blue Loctite -- medium strength compound for medium duty applications of med/large fasteners 3) Purple Loctite -- low strength compound for light duty applications of small fasteners 4) Green Loctite -- medium (?) strength wicking compound. A liquid compound for metal-to-metal bolt and nut connections where you can apply the compound without un-doing the connection. The liquid will "wick" into the threads using gravity and dry on its own.

I've found TOGGLER Plastic Toggle Anchors to be the best drywall mounting solution, but you need to match them to the thickness of the drywall.

Just before putting the toggle bolt toggle into the wall, take a hammer and peen the end of the threads. This will stop the the toggle from easily unthreading, but you can unthread if you need.

what would you suggest for an outdoor situation where the screws keep working loose on a metal flag mounting bracket? My front porch has four pillars that are each covered in a 1x6s or 1x8s (eyeballing the width as I've never measured them) that taper. Each pillar has a flag mounting bracket attached and three of them stay in place but the wind always works the screws loose on one. As a remedy, I tried the green plastic anchors and the wind pulled them out because the wings never expanded). All the brackets are at the same height so I really do not wish to drill new holes.

I used blue Tapcon screws in that application and the bracket does not budge.

After I have significantly large hole in drywall and the smaller screw going through, is there something for insulation I can put between the screw and drywall that will not be a permanent hold?-in case I need to remove screw later

Snap toggles are the best. Expensive, but reliable, and you don't have to worry about the anchor falling in the wall. It holds the most weight according to testing channels, and comes in 3 common sizes. Its a big hole like toggle bolts, but the toggle bolt is a one time frustrating use.

I have an extremely heavy plate glass mirror that I want to hang in my home's entrance hall; what kind of anchors do I use and how many?

Do you ever use spackle to reinforce drywall anchors, by applying spackle to the exterior of the drywall anchor prior to the first install to act as a glue?

One thing I would mention is to be careful with the amount of tightening torque you do with those toggle bolts. I have found the nut in the center of the wings to be poor quality and strip easy.

the rookie mistake that I did with a exterior wall was using a toggle bolt to hang a floating shelf and the insulation stopped the toggle bolt from fully expanding Causing a bigger hole.

I've had them give way on heavy installs that the metal was able to hold, but that was a pretty heavy over-the-toilet cabinet. I use both plastic and metal ones though, plastic is cheaper ;)

What about a plastic toggle (with a pin that you use to snap it open) instead of the metal one? Also what if the previous anchor that is failing is the kind with huge threads, that’s made a hole that’s thicker than the drill bit you’re supposed to use for such a plastic toggle? Even with a metal toggle, do you need to worry about the extra play within the old hole? Thanks!

As long as the “butterfly” section on the other side grabs on to the inside wall, you should be fine.

Easy anchor question. I am using an easy anchor, I get the screw mostly in, but then the easy anchor starts spinning with the screw. Why does this happen? What did I mess up? How do I fix it?

What about hanging stuff from the ceiling? EZ anchor?

Am I doing something wrong? Every time I tried using the ez anchor, both plastic and metal, they spin and strip out the drywall. I have even tried snipping off the tip to make it easier on the screw, but no, it ends up creating a huge hole that I have to deal with.

Toggles are terrible. They require such a large hole just to be inserted. Expansion anchors, the ones that flare out behind the wall when you turn the screw, are a much better choice. [Molly Bolts]

I love the metal EZ Anchors and will ONLY use those in my walls (well, and Monkey Hooks). The plastic version of EZ Anchors are great...UNTIL you hit a stud with one (and you will). Then you have this broken off piece of plastic embedded in your wall you have to remove.

If your driiling through a tile into plasterboard what do you use

to keep the hole as small as possible, Ive just used the large red plastic anchors. their rated for exterior use; hanging signs,lights etc. unless you are planning on doing pullups on your shower rod, towel bar they'll hold fine

#8 screw is best with easy wall anchor

Any tips on mounting stuff to old lath and plaster walls? I haven’t found a good way to do it. The plaster just tends crumble. It’s also really difficult to find studs in lath and plaster walls!

I have used molly bolts with some success in the past. My perimeter walls are 50 year old drywall on 1x2 strapping on solid brick. Not much wall cavity space, so a toggle bolt would not work. Small molly bolts worked for me in that instance.

The trick is to use a small, real string magnet. You can find the lathe nail heads. That'll give you the stud location. There's an old school stud finder that uses this principle. It actually looks like a small handheld pencil sharpener that's clear with little indicator inside of it and a magnet on the edge that's swivels. You can see it moving as the magnet finds a nail to attract to. The magnet wasn't very strong in those so could be spotty on thick lathe. A bare magnet works fine.

Thanks KLondike5. For finding studs, you’re right. I’ve done the string/magnet thing and it works, just kind of a PIA compared to stud finders with drywall. The big problem is trying to mount something in the plaster where there are no studs. 1941 house and the plaster just crumbles!

What do you mean when you say you always use two? Top n bottom instead of middle on your bracket?

Have you ever tried to take unscrew a screw that has been place in one of these anchors? Most times when trying to remove the screw in the anchor and they all come out of the drywall.

You do less damage by just pounding it into the wall instead of trying to take it out.

What size is the bigger one?

The purple threadlocker should be used there, not the blue. Purple is low strength for smaller fasteners like that set screw. Blue can be to strong for some small fasteners causing you to strip out the tiny hex in the head. I keep purple, blue, and red threadlocker around. I use the purple more often than the others. The green wicking threadlocker is handy to have around too. It wicks into threads of already assembled or tightened fasteners, keeping you from having to remove then reinstall.

I thought of purple thread locker as well because that is what gets used when resizing bracelets on wristwatches.

what happen if the easy anchor getting loose and came off from the dry wall?

I hate ez anchors. At the university it only caused a larger hole to patch before the end of the school year. Toggle bolts are student proof

I do the same, the EZ Anchors will be significantly harder to drive in but they will still work.

Sweet deal, I just picked up those drywall anchors and mounted my busted up towel rack in the bathroom!
