PLEASE Backup any important files before trying this fix!! I followed these steps exactly and lost all of my files. They are not in C:\Users\[my username\ or anywhere else, after trying this fix! These steps may have worked in 2017, but in 2020 I do not believe this fix works anymore. Use at your own risk.

Always type this in the command prompt before following the above as the User name you log on with might not be the same as the username the computer actually makes for you: echo %username%

Really not a good sign for me that the very first thing he does to fix the issue is something that I can't do. I have the exact same issue but my taskbar is locked, I can't search, can't hit the start bar, any of that stuff. Do you have an updated fix for that?

Sodmebody said to leave the dot "." in front of .bak and this worked for them. UH, it did not work! You get a black screen of death ... but can switch to another profile. I managed to use Window logo and R to get to the registry editor and delete the dot ... but each restart adds .bak back onto the profile I cannot log into ... I used the temp profile created when I try to login to search for my files and got them all copied onto an exterior drive but still cannot reach them by logging in ... now, in fact, this fix DID work for me until I moved the computer and had to plug it in again ... then the problem persists and the fix no longer works!

open cmd, type wmic useraccount where name='username here' get sid open reg edit, hkey_local_machine - software - microsoft - windows nt - current version - profile list go to the profile with the temp in it and edit the profile image path open files, go to local disk, go to intel, then users, then find your account username (pretty sure shahrush is not in your og account but eh) copy and paste it go back to the profile image path from reg edit, replace temp with your user you got from users delete the .bak user (i would probably export it first incase anything goes wrong close everything and then sign out

You could recover the data using EASEUS DATA RECOVERY software.. I got my user files(such as "Desktop","Documents", etc.) recovered using it

It didint work ;(

Yeah, it makes a temp profile for you if it cannot get into the normal one! You can use the search bar to locate you files folders under the temp profile, save them elsewhere, and then give then create a new profile with admin privileges and just use that new profile. That is what I am doing now and all is fine! I tried to old profile a few time and still creates temp profile so I am just never doing that again. I am aces with the new profile I made ...

I just choose to wait it out

I only get «NO instances available» :((( this is so frustrating!
