How to Fix Damaged Suede | Air Jordan 6 Restoration

Welcome back to another episode of ‘Customs and Restorations’ with Vick Almighty! Today Vick will be cleaning and restoring the Air Jordan 6 ‘Gatorade’.
Usually we’d start off by removing the laces and inserting our adjustable shoe trees, but you already know that once Vick saw those yellowed soles he'd dive right in! Using our 16 ounce bottle of solution and a RESHOEVN8R brass bristle brush, Vick immediately attacked the outsoles. In most of our cleaning videos we've used the stiff bristle brush to clean the soles, but our newest brass bristle brush definitely works more efficiently!
Once the outsole was completely free of dirt, grime, and pebbles trapped between the traction grooves, Vick broke out his favorite RESHOEVN8R product - Sole Revive! A sole this old and with this much wear and tear without routine maintenance is nearly impossible to bring back to its original form, but after 5 days in the indoor setup, aka ‘The Vick 2000’, the soles were looking much nicer!
It's finally time to remove those laces and insert those adjustable shoe trees! For this cleaning Vick broke out the RESHOEVN8R Signature Kit. Vick gave the uppers a thorough pass using the soft bristle brush, then hit the midsoles and outsoles with the medium bristle. After the shoe dried, the suede on the uppers was crunchy, so the brass bristle brush, with a little help from our horse hair brush, helped reset the nap. When you're working with suede, it's important to not be too aggressive with the brass bristle brush. If you go too hard, you can permanently damage the material.
Let the restoring begin! While the shoe looked much better after cleaning, Vick noticed some deeper stains in the suede that would just not come out. Using 400 and 600 grit sandpaper, Vick was able to get those stains removed. On to the midsoles! There were some deep scratches and scuffs in the paint, so Vick again called on the sandpaper method - 600 grit, to 800 grit, to 1000 grit, and SMOOTH!
To match the the paint with the original color, Vick used a mixture of green, dark green, light green, olive, avocado, and white! Vick applied the mixture using an angler brush and a heat gun. Once the paint was fully dry he applied a finisher to help protect the paint and voila, the shoe was looking almost as good as new! The last step of this restoration process was to bring back some of that beautiful green color in the suede. Using RESHOEVN8R Mink Oil, Vick sprayed the uppers with a couple of coats and massaged it in using our horse hair brush.

You can use Sole Revive on the gray midsole of your Bred 4's. This however can not be used on the white painted midsole, because it can cause damage.
I've been wanting this pair for a while now, but almost all the pairs I come across for a price I'm comfortable paying are in a similar condition... after watching you bring these back I feel a lot more confident about finally copping. Thanks for always sharing your tips and tricks brother ✌

This was an excellent restoration vid but you don’t need me to tell you that… Gatorade 6’s were always the more exotic color way to me… Vick my man you are the maestro of customs and restoration (no disrespect to the rest of the click y’all all absolutely do your thing 🔥) but there’s times where Vick shows how he’s built different in this community keep up the phenomenal work guys..and gals 🍻

Yo Vick! Can you give us more insight? Like how can we properly dry the shoe after cleaning? How do you figure out what colors to mix and how do you test if you got it right or close enough (testing a hidden spot on the shoe or on another surface etc)? Any recommendations for creating our own UV box for icing soles? Etc
Update on my university 1s. I’ve never used water to clean the university 1, but they fade and look more Ashy over time. After using light coats of the Mink oil and brushing it in, it made the suede nice and lively again. Color was not faded and the suede movement was much more apparent. Thank you Reshoevn8r!

My unc 1s have gotton horrible for some reason ! So i tried everything and they are like yellow ? Its weird i tried everything the sandpaper method is working but i only used 400 grit and 600 grit i should use that and then try mink oil right ?

with the passing time my new balance suede is fading gradually .its only couple of months old, how can i prevent the colour fading. does suede really fade colours in this short period of time?? or its just dirt and sands which overshadows the colour?.
I use the sand paper too hard and the sudes came off its like white now i feel like redying the sudes if the best option rn any tips?

you didnt strip the paint off when you repainted it ?

Vick - quick question. You didn't do it here, but when you apply Krylon matte to sneakers, how much do you usually put? You usually do it pretty quickly in your videos. Do you every cover anything (like if there is suede on the shoe, or cover the tongue or anything)?. Just bought a pair of beaters and need some help!

I’m not Vic but if you’re repainting a midsole with suede uppers, definitely tape off or cover the suede entirely before spraying the finisher on it. Or else it’ll get stiff and it’s hard to clean off. As for the amount, Vick said 1-2 coats with quick swipes in the same direction

Unfortunately once nubuck is damaged it can not really be prepared.

Kelly green is to dark i'v tried that on my Gatorade after i wash them they look lighter green.
Have pair of hight top huarache air trainer medium gray/ white photo blue they are one of my favorite shoes I had them in the box and the strap and the Swede got dry rotted because I didn’t used them enough. Is there a way to restore them???

Hi! You can try our Dry Suede Kit, but you may have to end up cleaning with water and solution. If that's the case, it's important not to get the material too wet, and to clean the shoe evenly

It's been quite a few years since we've cleaned that shoe, but you'd do it very similar to any other type of dark suede shoe. Always start with a Dry Suede Kit. You don't want to get suede wet unless you absolutely have to. If you do end up needing to use water and solution, it's important to NOT oversaturate the material. Anytime suede gets wet, there's always a chance of color bleeding or fading. Pat dry as you clean! You also need an even distribution of water/solution across the entire sneaker or you will end up with water spots.

We'd have to see the shoe to get a better understanding of what you mean, but suede should have a smooth buttery texture.

Anyone know what product could get out blue jean dye on some retro 5 michigans. My true religion jeans rubbed against the suede and now I have green patches of suede around the ankle areas.

Unfortunately, it is going to be hard to get those out. You can try with the Dry Suede Kit. However, you might have to get the shoe wet with Solution and Brushes, but you will need to clean the entire shoe evenly!

Vick usually does a few coats, just depends on how it looks! Can differ from shoe to shoe.

I heard water on suede is unnecessary and usually risky.. does it matter the type of suede or the state of the suede?? And wouldn’t it be smarter to clean the bottoms before soleglow??

It does matter. Some colored suedes will bleed the color. It's always good to test a small area first.

I have 2 pairs of 6s the white infrareds and the black cats and they are beat like the paint is chipping the soul is coming off I tried super gluing it because I don’t think they look terrible from the top it’s just the bottoms are beat I worked in a kitchen so the black cats were perfect because I needed black shoes but I think the degreaser are the bottoms I would love to send them in and let you guys use them for your vid they are really really best from the bottoms 😂 and the tops with some paint maybe it will cover the chips 😅 the souls are emoji yellow 😐
