It is so difficult to concentrate on a video if your audio and video visuals are not in sync. No matter how good or entertaining the video is, without the proper audio match it loses its essence. This is a problem faced by almost all digital media users. So, in this video, you will learn how to fix audio delays using OBS studio.
The foremost thing is to understand the cause of such audio delays. This is because when we record our video we use two external sources-
1.) WebCam or DSLR Camera- for video recording
2.) External Mic- for audio recording
Let us start with our OBS tutorial-
Calculating the frame
To understand the duration of delay in your audio and video, we need to calculate it in terms of the frame.
For this, you need to make a video of yourself clapping thrice with a brief duration between each clap. For recording, drag the video in any video editing software you use. You will see tracks, one being the audio and the other is the video track. Now, you need to figure out the point where listening to the sound of your first clap. You can set the point seeing from the audio graph.
Similarly, in the video track, you need to find the point where your hands join for the clap.
After finding out both the audio and video point, we now have the calculate the frame between the points. You can calculate the frame by counting the scales. Let us suppose you have 8 frame differences. We will now convert the frames into milliseconds.
As per calculation, 1 frame= 33.3 milliseconds.
Now, multiply 33.3 milliseconds with the audio-video frame difference, i.e. is 8 in our case
33.3 milliseconds*8=266.4 milliseconds.
Thus, our total Audio-video delay stands at 266.4 milliseconds. The next step is to add the value in the OBS audio setting. You all might get a question in our mind, regarding frame rates. The frame rates can be different for different videos. You can find out our frame rate in the OBS software itself.
Finding out the frame rate
Open OBS software and double-click on the video capture device. You can see your video frame rate in the below-mentioned details. If there is no such value, you can choose the custom option and select the required frame rate.
The next step is to add the delay in milliseconds in the OBS software. We need to open the voice-recording option setting. In OBS, under the audio mixer option, click on the Settings option and go to advanced audio properties. On the sync offset, but the difference in frame i.e. 266.4 milliseconds against the Boya Mic option. Voila! You are done.
