This is something I am struggling with sooo much right now. I am hitting inside pitches foul and outside pitches of the end of the bat.

Yeah, you're just a bit too early. Change your trigger and you will be good.

Or he is casting his hands, not staying inside the pitch, forcing him to start the swing early ? Swingpath and timing are so intertwined that you can't know what the problem is from a 'statement'.

Yes Jermaine, I don't know if you remember in the summer when I was able to speak to you on a live, but I am still watching these types of videos and picking up on the little things to better myself every practice. I'm eager to use my hitters log at the beginning of the next school season. I received it late last fall and was unable to use it. Thanks again.

My son had a long loopy swing because he cast the barrel back as he fired the hip. He was late on everything. I fixed that by having him pin the bat to his shoulder so that he would stay connected until the inertia from the hip/shoulder rotation would launch the bat off his shoulder. Worked perfectly - now he is a mile early on everything. He hits against pitching machines and his trigger has always been ball going in machine - he is so much faster to the ball now I am going to have him wait until he sees the ball leave the machine.

At age 55, returning to rec baseball, I have surprised myself with bat speed. I am way out front a lot of times, and when I do hold back, more then I think I should, I make solid contact. I now say to myself "Trust your bat speed!" 😁

@@JermaineCurtis55 Timing is huge! Smooth solid swing when taking BP or front toss. The minute they get a faster pitch or pitching machine. They get very reactive and the rush the swing or start early and then try to slow the swing at contact to not miss the ball. We are going to use the UCLA method from your other video. Do you think it will work for fastpitch as well? One less letter or start sooner with the UCLA for softball(

Have two questions. Do scouts care if you don’t have the prettiest swing in the world? Also, is copying hitters swings okay? Or is that a no?

There are a lot of MLB players with bad swing and have grest results so I will say no to the 1st question. And 2nd question, yes copy hitters and then create your own style.

I would definitely recommend getting your front foot down early and keeping your hands back. It lets you wait on pitches and square them up with your personal timing rather than bad habits

  • @rudivanrooijen7611

So now you adjust after being early on an outside corner 80 mph change-up, by delaying your trigger and the next pitch is an up-and-in 94 mph fastball ? Adjusting like this does not work unless you know which pitch is coming or if you just decide to guess/look for certain pitches. The general 'rule' on hitting is to let the pitch travel and let it get deep. For that you need a certain batpath that gets bathead into the strikezone in the early part of the swing, allowing you to 'launch' a bit later resulting in contact deep in the zone. As a catcher I experienced how, with the really good hitters, it always seemed like they would hit the ball just prior to me receiving the pitch. The one thing that is probably the most important, but hardest to learn is pitch recognition and timing.

Hey Rudi, good question, and thanks for commenting - But to answer it, most people on here looking for this type of info are struggling with fastballs. More beginner like. In any case, the scenario that you painted is more of an approach problem than a timing issue. You could easily eliminate both of those pitches with a plan.

@@JermaineCurtis55 The thing is, I see a lot of compartmentalised advise on hitting. As you know, good consistent hitting requires so many aspects to be in sync and finetuned,

You're right, hitting his hard. But, what we are trying to do is make it simpler. In the video above, the advice I gave helped me to reach the major leagues. It's very simple, but it worked for me, and its working for my students.

@@JermaineCurtis55 With regards to footland being the trigger, what I feel is important too is that your load-and-land should not be rushed. A rushed load-and-land will make weightshift immediate resulting in an inability to 'stay back' on offspeed pitches.
