I love that you are doing this. Back when I was growing up, this was all still pretty common sense stuff and we worked on our own vehicles, because we couldn't afford to pay someone else. Hopefully the younger generations will get back to this mentality of having a broad knowledge base, about multiple trades. Thanks Dave.

I have lost count of the times I have popped of a window winder from a drivers door just to re-set it at the 8 o'clock position. That way I always know where it will be when I need to open it without taking my eyes off the road. David in the U.K.

Awesome info. Now show everyone how to replace the interior door release handles on the second vehicle you showed. My daughter has those in her Prizm and I have to keep a few extra handles for each side in stock because the stupid things break all the freaking time. There's not a bit of metal in them, they're entirely made out of plastic, and they get put under quite a bit of pressure to pull the steel cable they're attached to that releases the steel door latch it's attached to that opens your door. Pro tip; buy two to one of the drivers side handles and you'll just about come out even in the long run.

Okay, I'll say it... I'm a Dave fanboy! Also, I got my ole PT Cruiser that had just been sitting around on the road again. You got me thinking I should have that go to decent vehicle that has no payments, you're familiar with for fixing, and it lets me know I always have a way around if my truck messes up on me. Oh, the gas mileage is great so, I'm going to be using it for sure to drive to work now. It didn't need much, but I knew how to fix it. Fixed the radiator, power steering, and put some new breaks on. It's pretty faded out on the paint so I'm thinking about referring to your car painting video to just give it a decent all over color. Thank you sir.

    1. There is a tool for pushing that spring-clip out that used to be easily available at parts stores. 2. You can install the spring-clip on the handle before pressing in onto the splined shaft.

One of the things that i like to do is install the handle pointing down after setting the window in the "ventilation" position, so that the knob isn't rubbing my knee while I'm driving. and the fully closed position is usually (but not always) one full crank from that, so still giving knee freedom. Just my two pennies.

Hi Dave, those spring clip captured handles can be placed back on the splined shaft with the spring clip already placed on the handle. If you look at the end of the splined shaft it has a conical end to it, which will facilitate pushing the handle back on with the clip already installed.

I have a chevy s10 4x4 and the passenger leaver to lean the seat back has tip broke off and there was a 4" vice grip on it before and now what little is left of rod is rounded off. Besides going to junkyard and getting a different seat. What would you do to fix it. I'm pretty sure the metal isn't strong enough to take a reg weld even if the fabric wasn't in the way. So how would you solve this problem. If anyone can solve or " Macgyver " it, it'll be you.
