    What we're looking for starts at 2:42. I've got my jumper wires prepared. Gonna pause now and give this a try (Batoca car polisher 12V, 5Ah is completely discharged and will not charge, and I have another one that's fully charged)... ...10 seconds wouldn't do it. I heard somewhere else that it can take 20 minutes, so will try that...

    You could make a harness out of 5 core trailer wiring. Red, green, white, yellow & brown coloured wires so it’s easily identifiable when hooking up in order.

    For those wondering, the battery is not actually bad it's just dropped below the low voltage threshold that will turn the charger on. This is part of the computer charge controller he mentioned. It has something to do with these batteries being. A fire risk if taken too low or charged from too low of voltage or something. I would not recommend leaving batteries in attended charging no matter if you do this or not.

    Josh, if you have a label maker, just put a label on each end of each wire with a # 1, #2, so on, and so forth. If you have different colored stickers, that would work also. Same color on each end of the wire.

    Speaking of tagging when you put the battery into service I would also tag the battery that you have done this trick too. That way if there seems to be a premature failure you'll know if there might be a contributing factor.

    I bought the dewalt adapter as soon as it came out. It took me a couple of iterations before I realized that the adapter was the reason the batteries were dying. I always used to leave my 18v batteries on my drill, and never thought another thing about it. In the end, I ended up just getting rid of my dewalt kit, and switched to makita. (Makita batteries suck, but at least they are marginally better.) I wish I had made the move to milwalkie instead….

    When I get though using my cordless power tools for the day I always take out the batteries. I was given two DeWalt 18V 6.5” circular saws with batteries and charger, one battery was dead the other almost. I priced a new battery $109.00, I ordered two adapters from Lowe’s for less than $100.00, I already had 20V lithium batteries plus I also found out that the adapter is hard to remove so I just leave them in the saws just remove the batteries.

    WOW, talk about bizarre... Just last night, I was curious of the name of the wood stoves that you collect so, I did some searching through your videos and found the video of when you installed the new rope seal on a stove. You actually mentioned this DeWalt adapter. I had never heard of such a thing and liked the idea. That video was many years ago and then tonight you mention it again. Crazy timing. So, BTW, what is the brand of wood stoves you like? I'm hoping to see you do a restoration soon. My apologies for the long comment.

    this only works on some batteries. it won't work on worn out batteries. i have a bunch of worn out 20 v dewalts that i have tried this on and most of them it did NOT work. and those 18v to 20 v adapters also burn up on any tool that takes real power like an angle grinder or big drill especially under sustained load. we use a bunch of dewalt drills in my factory , that's how i know this.

    You have to do the same thing with smart battery chargers and car, golf cart, or deep cycle batteries. If they drop below a certain voltage the chargers won't recognize the battery and won't even cut on. The cheat is to hook another battery up in parallel like this to booster the voltage so the charger will kick off or get an old school manual charger and charge each battery for a bit to boost the voltage till the smart charger will kick on and take it to fill charge.

  • @michaelbrowne8068
    @michaelbrowne806810 ай бұрын

    Same thing with battery packs , boosters or jumpers and new smart chargers. They won’t charge a dead battery. You use another battery to start the charge process and then they will charge. Not sure if the word is correct but excitation.

Guess its time to do away with the 18v stuff and breakdown to pay for the adapter and 3-20 volt batteries. Also I need to find out if those NiCad batteries can be thrown in the trash or if there is a special receptical I need to put these in.
