Thanks so much for posting this, Danny. I woke up this Christmas morning to a partially flooded basement and a very active pinhole leak. Dreading the possibility of a holiday callout by my local plumber, I saw this video and -- voilà -- my immediate plumbing emergency is over!

This is very helpful to me. Such clear instructions. I Heard water, found the source and saw a pinhole. Shut the water off (not main) but it’s still leaking and so I will do this since it’s so simple. Thank You. It’s an outside pipe for the hose so maybe I’ll fix it and not use that one anymore I have several others. Wish me luck.

This is a handy straightforward fix thank you! Do you know on average how long copper piping lasts before pinhole leaks can appear? We got some installed inside our house along the downstairs basement ceiling.

Depends on the water quality, the conditions of the pipe environment, the quality of the pipe material, and just luck. I have a 70 year old house and one pipe randomly got a pinhole leak at the solder joint on an elbow after 68 years. No signs of corrosion or damage. Just the plumber missed a spot of solder in 1949 and it took until 2019 to reveal itself.

Would this be fine on top vertical piece of copper pipe near the hot water tank since the pipe will be warm?

Lady who is losing her house after owning it for 50 years has a plumbing problem. A solder joint developed a small drip. Your method will stop the drip. It's not a permanent solution, but will carry her through for a few days. Water will be shut off when she moves out in about 30 days.

Hello, Great video! I have a question, I have a pin hole leak in a hot water copper line. It is corroded pretty bad, I can see the pin hole. It is on the bottom of the copper pipe. It is on an elbow joint. I am afraid to sand away at the corrosion, fearing that I might make it worse. What should I do? Is there anything I can use on corroded copper with out sanding?? Just spray or paste onto corroded copper pipe. Thanks, Jeff

Municipalities are using Chloramines (chlorine/ammonia) as the disinfectant. Chloramines are more acidic and create an caustic environment and an increased possibility of having pin hole leaks in copper. Whole house catalytic carbon units have been found effective at reducing this. HousePure whole house filters target the problem.

Such municipalities should have their Utilities Director taken out and shot, then the remaining gov't should be sued until they rectify the pH. Copper should last indefinitely w/ N. America municipal water. If you have a well that's acidic enough to attack copper, drill a deeper well until you hit "sweet" water. NOT saying whole house filters aren't a great idea, for many reasons, but the incoming water shouldn't have such a low pH.
