Thank you so much for posting these videos I Am A 42-year-old single female with little to no mechanical knowledge LOL 😆 I mean I can change a Tire and Oil but that's about it... Being only a week after Christmas & a legit single mother (kids father passed away) & my oldest birthday in less than 2 weeks every penny i can scrape up comes out to be less than $100 and had me feeling pretty bummed & stressed especially since temps dropped to extreme lows 2 days ago. All i was hoping n praying for was a fair shot at an attempt to not only provide my kids with a warm vehicle to school each morning but also 1 their mother could actually see out the windshield of bcuz it had become down right dangerous with the freezing 🥶 Temps windshield wasn't thawing no matter how long I "warmed" the car up😔feeling almost defeated I gave it 1 last shot n started googling and there u were!! My saving grace!!! Thank u so much for posting these videos!!! Fixing my cars blower motor as we speak!! U rock!! Keep the awesome content coming!!💚

Chris, it's been 6 years since you posted this. And recently my car started taking forever to warm up the air now that's it's cold out. First thing I remembered was this video that I watched a good 3-4 years ago. I just wanted to say thank you! My car now has hot air blowing during these cold mornings/evenings! It turned out that my car was just low on anifreeze/coolant. Thankfully, it's all that the car needed. No, I don't have a leak, it just normal evaporation that exits from the reservoir. But it also shows how often I look under the hood, and this situation reminded me that it was past due that I checked under the hood. Thanks again!

This is seriously one of the best automotive tutorial videos I’ve seen. As someone without A lot of automotive experience, I often have a hard time figuring out which parts are which and videos are often either too dark or not clear enough to help. This was crystal clear and Now my heater is working again after a month of trying to figure it out on my own. Hooray!! My heater valve doesn’t look anything like the one in the video but your description and visuals were clear enough that I was able to locate mine and reattach the cable. Thank you.
This is the first time that I have seen your work. It is clear and concise. Good Job! It recaps many things that I have learned over the years and adds more to the mix. Because of this, I have recommended this video in particular to my daughter. Like many young people her reaction was, "well, I have to go to the dealership for diagnostics, so why should I watch this?" What I told her and advice that I would give to anyone is that sometimes people lie. It is always a good idea to have some understanding of a situation before you go in.
Chris, you sir, are the MAN! I used this video to correctly trouble shoot the heat problem on my 2005 F150 to a blend door. I changed it out, and now I have heat! Thanks Chris!
That was probably the most helpful video I've ever seen on KZread. Perfectly clear and comprehensive. Thanks so much!

Thanks for the video. It is easily the most comprehensive and concise video I've seen that covers a number of possible causes and solutions for the no heat problem I'm troubleshooting at the moment. I replaced the heater core and blend door in my '97 Ford F150 and now there is no heat. I was already looking at the actuator under the dash and now I have even more useful info to determine the cause and I'm confident I can fix it without pulling the entire dash. Thanks again!

Thank you for this video Chris. My brothers used to race cars and taught me when I was young how to fix my own cars. I changed a water pump and for the life of me. I could not get the temp above 110 and only cold air inside. Air Lock! After getting Tourettes and then, up to and including writing a very strongly worded letter to GMC, I finally calmed down and looked closer and realized I was not getting water into my heater core which was not allowing water to the T-stat, so it would not open allowing more coolant in. And then I found your video. I do feel better after writing GMC, but I probably should have looked here first. I am sure some engineer that gets paid $375,000.00 a year is feeling like a total loser after reading what I wrote.
Thank you Chris, I almost had a heart-attack after seeing some ads for blown heater-motor repair($450+ !). After watching this video, I drove down to Walmart and got me some $10.99 Anti-freeze, filled up the tank, topped off the radiator and 'voila' the heat was working better than before ! Thanks again...

ChrisFix hey I just wanted to thank you for all your videos I have watched A LOT of them and helped me fix some things on my blazer. Just wanted to Thank you for making these videos it is much appreciated.
I'm only here to comment that I was far from home (South Orange County, CA) and very deep into the city of Riverside (approx 1hr away) when the heater wasn't working at all. Did EXACTLY what my dude here recommended: Buy coolant specific to my Lexus RX300, head home, go to bed, letting the engine go completely cold by morning.. Wake up, look at the reservoir (which was slightly above the L aka low level), fill up the reservoir with coolant to the F aka full level, start the vehicle and wait until the engine was warm, turned on the heater and PRESTO: Instant fix and running exactly as it was before! Thanks my dude for setting me on the right path!
The coolant level was the first thing I checked when I saw your video. Sure enough that was the problem .Fixed THANKS
Thanks Chris! Awesome video! I was told by the shop that to fix the blend door actuator would be 700.00 because they have to take the dash apart. I am going to give your troubleshooting a try....weather permitting!
Still a great video to this day. I went through the complete video, replaced the blower motor resistor per the symptoms. The blower continued acting screwy throughout the different switch positions, then finally found that the culprit was the actual fan speed switch contacts had welded closed in the high speed position. Replaced the switch, and voila! Fan speeds work again! Thanks a bunch for stepping us through the entire system, definitely makes troubleshooting easy when you know how something is supposed to work. 👍
Having a no heat problem , haven't figured it out. Thanks for all hints , very detailed and helpful video. 👍

Don’t forget about the Cabin Air Filter(s). Even my mom could check/change those 👍👍. I like to check the easiest fix first. Lol. My problem was poor air flow, but I had heat so maybe that’s why it wasn’t mentioned in this particular video. I used to fix planes, but never had ANY desire to work on cars. But in this day and age, it’s time to start doing car stuff myself. Some problems are things that people can do themselves. There is so much info on the internet it’s crazy not to at least search for a simple solution. 👍. I never knew there were filters right inside my glovebox 🤦♀️🤦♀️. As I changed them, I wondered “I wonder how many people have been charged 100s of dollars to have their heating fixed and had no idea all the shop did was change the filter(s)!!” This video is SO informative and done very well!!! Even if a person doesn’t want to work on their own vehicle, it’s still a great idea to know how things should work and what the different parts are for. You explain normal and abnormal operation so well and do a fantastic job of showing us where the parts are!! And how to troubleshoot!! Changing the air filters helped my problem a lot. But this video has given me so much basic knowledge about the system operation that I feel confident I can troubleshoot and fix/change parts in the future if needed. It has also helped me to realize I really should pop the hood more often and look at some of these things every now and then myself. It’s so easy to let things go in the busy world we live in. But the few minutes to check some stuff can save many hours, headaches, and $$$$ later on down the road 👍👍👍. This is the first video of yours I have seen, but I will be subscribing! Thank you for being awesome and sharing your knowledge!! You are a great instructor 👍.

Great advice. just followed through this video to get my heat working. first i replaced the thermostat (which was easy), then the blend door actuator, which was more difficult. but i got it done!
Thanks for all your help .When it's below zero and have no heat in Van ,I go to KZread Thank You , you saved me alot of"$$$$$$".
These are excellent presentations. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Thank you from New Jersey.
A gauge in the middle doesn't always mean the thermostat is good. On the 97 ranger I used to have, the temperature sending unit was on the RADIATOR side of the thermostat. When the thermostat stuck shut, all the coolant was pushed into the overflow reservoir, what few pockets of coolant remained in the engine boiled like crazy, but the gauge never showed overheating. It only measured the cool water that was trapped between the radiator and the engine. That design flaw aside, the ranger was so well built that it lasted more than a year after that, and when I finally retired it (at 297,000) I drove it to the place where I traded it in.
Thank you young sir for an extremely comprehensive video. I have unfortunately done most of these options on my ford connect van . In two days l will be changing the water pump and both belts( cam and serpentine) so l will have completed the round robin of your options. Just in case though l will be putting a T in the topmost hose for bleeding the air
I fixed my 2018 Ford Transit 250 SWB heater problem using tip to check coolant levels. Had the local oil change outlet top off my vehicle's fluid levels, which included the coolant. It needed about a gallon to fill the reservoir. Totally rolling the dice, thinking it was something more severe, but it worked. Thanks.
Thank you Chris for all the videos, i found them very helpful.

Glad the video helped
Man, you are excellent at explaining. You explain so specifically and precisely. Very easy to understand and visualize. Thank you,. My heater fan quit on me just last night. It was slow at first. It was working on certain settings. Then slowly I could hear the motor beginning to quit and then nothing. So I appreciate this timely video. One thing I was wondering, the quick, temporary fix to clog the vacuum hose, that plugs into the heater control valve. What do I do with the vacuum hose afterward. Do I just allow it to dangle or do I plug it back into place, clogged? I think it is my motor that is shot, by the sounds of it. Hopefully it is a cheaper fix than replacing my windshield. Bad timing as it is winter here and Christmas is right around the corner. So thank you for this video, as I may just be able to do it myself. I now understand the concept of it all too. It's nice being a woman and understanding a little more about the goings on under the hood of my car. And not being ripped off at the auto body shop because of a lack of knowledge.

He SAID that was a temporary fix, just to get heat "right now", pretty obviously you are going to have to replace the heater control valve for a permanent fix eventually! Until then, just tie, tape, etc the end out of the way, so it doesn't get damaged further. Replacing your motor - is going to cost more than almost any other repair! The transmission could be a fairly close "second", sometimes it's cheaper to get a new vehicle than either one of those, unless you're a motor-head and can do most of the work yourself - but THAT doesn't sound like it's really an option, shrug. I can pretty well guarantee, it's going to cost substantially more, than replacing your windshield - probably at least 5 times as much! Last I knew, a decently running junkyard motor would cost you about $600, and that's not counting labor, which likely would cost, at least as much!
you are amazingly smart, I would love to have a teacher like you. thank you
1992 Mazda 626 had no heat in 20 degree morn temp, and I froze on my way to work. Came home, watched this and did it. Now both inlet and outlet have heat, whereas before, only the inlet was warm and the other was not. Feels good to have warm air in the cold. Thanks for the info
What a great video! I have a 2015 Mustang, whose heater started randomly blowing cold, hot, nothing. At first, I thought it could be one of the actuators under the dash controlled by the temperature knob or a fuse, etc. Turned out to be a small leak in a radiator hose. This caused the overflow reservoir to empty. The low coolant sensor that monitors the overflow reservoir then caused my heater to quit working properly. Never thought it would be anything like this. Easy fix to replace hose.
