    I cannot thank you enough. I watched many videos on this issue. The solution seemed to be, replace the blower unit and the resistor. (More than 100.00 for both parts). I purchased these products and was ready to install... then I came upon this video. I thought why not give it a try before we go in for major surgery. Much to my absolute disbelief it worked!!! Not only that, it only took about 5 minutes. I will now be returning the parts I had purchased! Thank you Thank you!!! Cheers!!!

    Mate thankyou so much. I was just about to buy a new unit and I came upon this video and I thought I'd give it a go. The blower fan fuse wasn't even in place. I put the 30 fuse in. Then I removed the cabin filter and went to spin it and it was indeed stuck. I spun it a few times by hand then put some wd40 on it. Then turn the car on and it was working again. Legend thankyou mate.

    Thank You! Saab 9-3 2006 here. Removed air filter and started to rotate the fan. It was firmly stuck but after putting a bit of force into that it got free and started working again. Lubricated and works more silent and better than ever! Took max 5 minutes to fix. Cheers!

    Thanks! I just removed the cabin/pollen filter and with my hand, moved the fan motor. And it was working immediately. The cabin/pollen filter was full of dirt and I think the problem was that it couldn't "breathe"..... So simple. Great, that people like you are helping and take time to make video about, to solve problems. Kind Regards, Jens

    Hi Heath - I'm a complete novice and avoid mechanics at all times. This morning on the coldest day here in England this year the blower stopped working!. Didn't fancy another garage bill so tried your video. I can't believe it but after trying the fuse I accessed the fan and moved it a few turns then sprayed some WD 40 on to it and away it went!. Thank you!

    Great video! Helped me a lot. I woud say only two things from my experience: 1. The motor would not start working after liubricating, so I would gently give it a push with a rubber stick and it would start rotating immediately. DO NOT DO THAT WITH A FINGER!!! 2. I removed the glovebox first to see what is going on there. By putting it back I apparently pushed and disconnected a cable which supplies the passanger door with electricity. To reconnect one has to remove the plastic pannel under the glovebox from the site of the door.

    I have a 2007 9-3 sport combi which has a slightly different blower, but these instructions worked with me aswell. Blower started to make a squeezing noise first then it stopped blowing all together. With access trhough the cabin air filter I first sprayd some crc and that allowed me to rotate the fan (it was barely rotating before that). Then tgrough glovebox I checked the blower wiring, disconnected the power which seemed to be ok, but never the less I adjusted the metal parts with a small screwdriver. Power on and heureka, it was blowing again and the irritating noise was gone. Thanks for the info video, it was really easy to follow and saved me few hundred euros + DIY repairing is always fun, especially when it is a success.

    Those small which are inside the wiring connector. That was to ensure that the connection works all the time as it should. The sqeaking noice went away with crc. Just spray crc or similar lube stuff into the blower. Remove cabin airfilter and you see the blower (as shown in the video), then spray there. All the way down, usually those cans have a thin pipe which you can attach to the nose, which helps you get the stuff all the way down to lube the bottom of the blower.

Still doesn't work. Finally took to mechanic. Showed me photo of blower motor resistor connector. Outside 2 pins completed burned/melted beyond repair. Been trying to find that "resistor connector" part. Discontinued by manufacturer. Been in touch with lots of Saab salvage folks. No luck. Can you, or one of your followers, help me find this part??? Don't use WD-40 to lubricate the blower shaft. Its lubricating properties won't last in a motor environment. Instead use an electrical motor lubricant such as 3-1 electrical motor oil ($3.00) at the store). Lubricating the top of the blower shaft through the filter box opening may or may not be sufficient. If the blower is working but making chirping sounds the problem may just as easily reside on the shaft end located on the bottom of the blower motor, which can't be reached form on top and thus might necessitate removing the blower assembly completely in order to relubricate.

    Returning home through a heavy rain(not sure if matters) and the fan started playing up. it stayed on even after i turned the ignition off. after i returned to the car the next day a strong smell of burned plastic was present and ac isnt working.following your steps i found that there is no voltage on the second pin of the connector where i should read 1.5V. what does that mean?

    I would say the reason you have no voltage is either the fuse blew or something else in the blower circuit has burned up. Go through the rest of the steps to see if the fan moves freely and check the fuse. It may be beyond DIY at this point. Good luck!

    Done more investigation since.. the fuse seems ok. I removed the resistor which was located right below the fan and found it was siting in puddle of water. More than that it has a big hole on it,, wish I could post a picture.. overheating or something cause the case to melt completely... luckly nothing worse happened but im freekin scared of what might have caused this

    The issue most likely was caused by a bad seal around the air box on the fire wall. Watch the video on how to fix the leak. Good luck!

    Spot on, removed the filter case to find a muddy mess around it.. that was not efficient anymore for sure. Is any caulking/adhesive good as sealant?

    You should check the user manual for your car model as it may vary but it will be clearly specified in it. On a 2003-2004 9-3 linear, it is the big red 40amp fuse in the top right. Pause his video here: kzread.info/dash/bejne/qolltaOHc5mwZZc.html If the whole climate control does not work, you might want to check the 4th fuse (10 amp) in the first column from the top left.

    I need to know how to pull the whole blower assembly out

  • @heathputnam9524

    @heathputnam9524

    +Stan Lard Once inside the glove compartment you will see 3-5 screws around the blower assembly. The heads will be pointed straight down at the floor. Take those out and the whole blower assembly should drop right out. Depending on what options your car has there maybe some other wires and/or sensors to remove as you drop the blower assembly down. you may also have to remove the bar/trim that goes across below the glove compartment. Hope that helps. I did not video that as I was able to fix with it still in the car. Thanks for the question.

    Removed mine use wd40 to unseize it only it will not last wd40 is gone in a few days. I drilled the top bearing housing and lower bearing housing with a 1/8 drill bit . make sure you drill the fan side upside down so shavings fall away and not into magnets. I then filled a syringe with grease and injected it into both holes ,reassemble your good to go
