Hi, I'm Max (@nervzofficial) and I run FL Studio Tips.
Today I will show you a tutorial on one of the most important aspects of great vocal mixes! We will be making space for the instrumental using EQ, Limiter & hidden patcher preset that nobody wants you to know about!
This secret trick is actually mind-blowing and I cannot imagine mixing without it.
To be fair I was thinking for a long time if I want to share it, but I decided that everybody has the right to best knowledge & education.
In this video, I will show you how to fit your vocals to the song/beat/lease perfectly, make it sound as one, and not as one track put over the other.
We will make a mixing relation between the vocal and the instrumental which lots of people forget about. It works without it but it definitely isn't a professional approach!
Not only into the beat but any instrumental!
We go about that and many more concepts in our new course!
Share this video with somebody you think it would be helpful for - it can be on your Instagram Story, Facebook group, Reddit, forum, etc.
You can use these techniques for every genre, such as dubstep, progressive house, future house, drum and bass, hip-hop, RnB, bass house, deep house, hard trap & many more!

Everytime you mentioned sidechain in your videos I never had any idea of what the hell you were talking about. I was SCARED of this thing. I just only understood like a week back how to chain normally a track to another one and what it even does. I always skipped any video containing something with sidechaining because this was just too complicated for me. Today I decided to randomly click on this video. After 15minutes of everything writing down I have a very good idea of "what it does" and "how to use it" now. You probably get this a hundred times a day, but Max. You really just helped me a lot with this 5min video. Im ready for the double 360 noscope mainchain now. Gotta face your fears

I have a question, but only because you didn't mention it. Why not use Fruity Peak Controller on signal mixer>Fruity Parametric EQ on the signal you want to compress>link to controller only the specific frequencies you want to the peak controller? Seems like you would have a lot more control, and you wouldn't need to take up cpu by running a compressor.

Hey! Not sure if you already got an answer but what I did was WAV export the solo’ed main vocal with only the compressors and EQs turned on, then WAV export the rest of the track (with all vocals muted). After, I exported all vocals together (with all effects on) to another wav file. Next, I opened a new project, named it Master and dragged in the two first WAV files. I then used the sidechain trick shown in the video and finally dragged in the full vocals WAV file and blended it to taste with the now-side chained track. Hope that helps!

Your tips are awesome. Sorry I always have two cents to add. If I can add one more tip as an alternative: Instead of rendering out a dry track which is more files to work with, you can use a fruity send and route the signal to the instrumental with the volume all the way down. It will send the signal with only the effects which appear before it (so the reverb and delays etc. won't be sent if they appear after the send). Note: Typically fruity send is pre-fader but as you're using it as a side chain, it seems to be post fader, so decreasing or increasing the fader position does affect your side chain amount. The more you know.

Hey thank you for your further tip. I have two questions tho: first is this automatic? I mean I don't see him set anything inside the patcher tool, no eq, am I missing something? Second, as you suggested I set a fruity sender before creative effects (auto-tune included: is it correct?) and I send the vocals to the track having all the volume turned down, not side-chaining the vocals in the mixer to the track as he shows but just the track with the master, having the vocals connected to the track trough fruity sender (sorry for repeating stuff). Once I open the patcher in the track I select the vocals output, then I do the connections in the map he says (even tho my map connections looks a bit different than his map connections) but if I do not click "inspect sidechain" (if I do I hear both track and vocasl) I only hear the vocals and not the track only as he gets in the video. Am I doing or setting something wrong or is it ok? Sorry I'm a beginner thanks for your help

@prodbytwizzy This is how I understand it so take it with a grain of salt. Consolidating the raw vocals and using it as a signal creates a breathing room for your vocals. It copies the frequnecies of your signal so it will feels like the beat envelopes the vocal compare to just sidechaining it with the effects on. I never tried to consolidate nor sidechain the vocals but I think if you've done that the vocals would be too upfront rather than letting it fit with the beat.

  • @alexraia1377

Good tip but it would have been helpful to show how to do it with multiple vocal tracks... I don't think most people just have a single track for all their vocals. You made it look easy by just selecting the vocals, but it looks a little more complicated when you've recorded your vocals bit by bit.

It would help if you slowed things down a little for people like me that don't yet know all the shortcuts and common workflows as well as you. Just a thought... But maybe since your channel is geared towards FL Studio, you assume your viewers are at a higher level of proficiency.

Basically when he roots the signal (the thing u just made) to the beat, you see him turn a dial all the way down and that makes it so you can't hear the vocals without wet effects. Then after that you unmute your original tracks with wet effects by highlighting them and pressing shift-alt-m and the signal plays but you cant hear it, making space for the original track and you can continue to adjust stuff.

How we do compression perfectly without loosing the vocal character

  • @n0cyber

    @n0cyber

    3 жыл бұрын

Use only gentle compression. 2:1 ratio only a few db of gain reduction to catch the peaks. Do the rest with volume automation. Alternatively you can use Waves Vocal Rider or Melda MAutoVolume. They do pretty much the same. Volume automation sounds way more natural than compression. Compressors can cause or emphasize artifacts and most of the time color the sound. But like everytime in mixing it depends on the source. There is no formula for any situation.

Google the bpm and key of the vocal. Then on the very top right of the vocal wav form (next to the name of the wav on the arrange page), there is a tiny button, click that and click 'Fit to tempo'. Next, a box should open with general bpm times but you want to click on 'Type In (BPM)' option. Then just enter the Bpm of the original vocal and it will be in time with what ever your track is.

You need to set the meta-data of the vocal to its actual BPM. So, say if you have a sample at 140 and want to make a track at 150, then you could use Edison to assign its BPM. That's done through right clicking on the sample in edison and selecting "properties". Then there will be a box to put in BPM. Render the sample out and it will automatically time stretch to that assigned BPM. From there, you can change the project tempo and the sample will time stretch to the project BPM. Alternatively, like Tac said, you could go to the sample settings and select "fit to tempo" and "type in: BPM" (140), provided you know it was at 140. Then, it will time stretch the vocal and it will align to 150. Knowing the BPM of the sample is the most important part.
