    Many thanks for a very helpful video! I've just bought one of the Dudley's to replace the flush over a Saniflo macerator toilet. The toilet itself was non working for ten years (the 'official' agent charged us £60 to replace the ball float which was nothing to do with the faulty toilet) but I finally managed to repair it with a new condensor and rubber gasket after watching yet another KZread video (not a pleasant job). I suspected the syphon was wearing out after the ten year holiday as the toilet pump starts up on its own a couple of times each day probably due to a slight leakage into the bowl triggering the pressure sensor, now the flush is only working on and off so its time to replace in the next day or two. This will be a great help as the toilet (fitted by social services for Dad) is incredibly tight to get at but once this is fitted - no more major jobs!

    Thanks, a handy video featuring the flush unit I was planning to buy for my first attempt at changing a siphon. One wrinkle: after disconnecting the cistern it refused to lift off the pan. Some googling revealed that it may be held down with silicone mastic and wiggling the cistern to and fro was required to free it. I installed the new flush without mastic, as recommended in the instructions supplied with the unit, and it's still watertight after several hours. (I also fitted new fibre washers on the inlet pipe.) How else to spend a wet May bank holiday?

    Great video, thanks. I used it yesterday when replacing our toilet siphon as it was not working properly. We actually got a Fluidmaster Ultra for lever operated as it was the only one at Wickes. I was fine fitting it but I’m stumped by how to set it or if I’ve set it correctly. You can adjust a couple of parts to do with water height and overflow height etc but I’m confused and not sure what to do despite reading the instructions I’m none the wiser. It seems to flush ok, however the handle is quite loose. When I tighten the nut inside the cistern it sticks, so have to leave it a little loose. Any tips on how you set the siphon I mentioned and how to sort the handle issue would be fantastic! Thanks again for the video

    Just completed this. Your video is a good tutorial, but I experienced a couple of problems. First one was that my float arm caught on the new syphon side - so I had to heat bend it to an S shape. Second was a leak on the feed entry joint - I've had this before when reflacing a feed system - I managed to solve it using a rubber o ring washer instead of fibre washer - it sqeezed up tighter to make a better seal. These tasks are always straightforward till something goes wrong! Cheers again.

    @@DoItAllDan I haven't stripped it down yet however, I am trying to establish the outlet diameter so that I can buy the syphon unit before I start. The toilet is 1986 vintage, the base of the syphon appears to be about 2" outside diameter, I cannot get to the actual outlet yet and I do not want to strip it down until I have all the parts. Is the outlet size a standard of 2" or 1.5", what would you advise please?

    Completed the replacement, excellent advice Dan. I changed the close coupler, could only purchase a plastic version and I was thicker than the steel one fitted. The old seal was in a poor state so the change was worth it. It did give me a challenge with the back fixing because the plastic coupler and new seal ment the hole fixings did not quite line up. Small problem but all sorted. Very pleased with help from Dan.

    Excellent video mate! Is that the same Dudley DuoFlush as I installed a couple of years ago? It's the most counterintuitive siphon you can imagine: to get a short, eco flush, you hold the handle down for ages, whereas for a normal, water-intensive flush, you just give the handle the usual short pull. As a result, no one ever uses the short flush, because it takes more effort, and you're never quite sure when you're supposed to let go of the handle! LOL. Madness.

    I agree with all the positive comments - a good video! In my cistern the float arm catches on a small blue tab that sticks out of the Turbo blue body section. I can't see what this blue tab does other than prevent the float arm from dropping fully down and make the refill slow. Can I just cut it off?

    Very informative, the thing is I have my cistern almost 7’ from the floor and about 18” from the ceiling so not much room to work with. Making things more awkward the cistern is a 40 + years old ‘Shires’ unit which contains asbestos everything other than the syphon works fine including the mains feed & overflow pipe. What do you suggest other than calling in an expensive hazmat plumbing team? BTW I live in a council house.

    I am planning on doing a video for an extractor, they are generally straight forward and only 3 wires. Live, switch live, neutral. Just remove the old front casing either held by a grub screw or a push insert and you will see the three wires, test them with a multimeter and isolate as required. Swap with a new unit and drill holes as required. Cut wires to suit new unit (should be marked which wire goes where, live, switch and neutral) and fit new cover/ test. If you are still struggling there should be a video on KZread but it's very easy to replace hope this helps Buzz. Thanks

    The unit shown here has a TWO part fixing. 👀Some units have three parts (as one unit) 1. A large screw collar that secures the dome to the 2. main squarish unit PLUS 3. another screw collar that screws to the fixed down pipe within the cistern. Make sure you have the right one unit! ( Ideally remove, take to your supplier/retailer DIY et) 👀👍 Most are UNIVERSAL fixings BUT! ALWAYS make sure especially when ordering online etc

    This particular one can just be twisted and replaced, most however have to be removed depending on which you have

    If you have trouble fitting a blank -just put a slightly undersized O ring over the washer then fit.

    it's lucky the installer, did not use steel screws to attach the cistern to the wall, or it would have been a pain to remove rusted screws, a good plumber who has maintenance experience would use screws which do not rust ( stainless or brass ) if they care. and the thomas dudley turbo 88, has an internal overflow, great video, thanks.

    @@DoItAllDan thanks. A plumber fitted it. I tried to adjust the height and it does lower however this then pulls the toilet handle down so that’s no use as then can’t use it like that. I think the cistern is very old and may be too small for the standard syphon. I may have to get plumber back out as may well need a whole new cistern.

    Hi dan most plumbers i know always use sealent around the siphon washer and ptfe tape on the nuts to be absolutely leak proof would you recommend this.

  • @DoItAllDan

    @DoItAllDan

    Not for me EK, I was always taught (and this is proof) 😂 you do not need to rely on sealant or ptfe. I wouldn't apply it to any new install by any means if I'm being honest. All new, should be fine with supplied washers etc if its new and leaks I would check for damage. 👌🏻👌🏻

    OK, great vid BUT! It should be made clear that you do NOT have to remove the unit from the wall to replace the siphon unit!! 👀NOT do you have to empty the unit completely. It is more than likely that the siphon unit NOT the inlet valve or ballcock et will need replacing ! 😶If you have a heavy ceramic unit believe me the last thing you want to end up doing is stripping it off the wall !! I've just replaced our siphon unit and yes the overall cost is about £20 all in BUT as said here, it is NOT worth compromising with a cheap unit. !! 👍Lastly, stay safe!
