How to Fish in the Beach Wind on Oak Island
Growing up, I thought all beaches faced east and that if you swam straight out, eventually you'd reach England. Well Oak Island has faked me out. Our beach faces south. What does this have to do with fishing? Lots, when you consider how the different winds affect the waves in the surf. In this video, we will explain the affect each wind (east, west, north and south) has on the surf and what that means for fishing. We will also stop in and try a few hot dogs at Bob's Dogs!

Love Bob's Dogs!! We were there two years and Bob's is a must if your in the island. Just subscribed today to your channel, learning all I can about surf fishing. Second ever trip was at Gulf Shores, AL last week. First was Oak Island in 2019, I'm hooked on surf fishing.

Since filming that video, the wind has only kicked up more. Hopefully it’ll lay down a bit tomorrow

I'd like to see a stingray catch and cook.... Bob's Dogs is good eats. I do like the videos where you fish and then show a local eatery.

@@SandsintheSurf Question, does using Pompano rigs, with float pinned at the hook, reduce catching Sting Rays? Just curious, we were down in May, no Sting Rays but lots of Bonnet Heads, some Whiting, Croaker and a few Spots.

@@BN-xi6oh good question. Seems to make sense because the bait would be up off the bottom. I’ve heard that floats help keep the crabs off so seems similar

I was wondering if fishing from the surf at Carolina beach, what would be the ideal wind direction?

Carolina Beach faces east so an east wind would produce bigger waves and a west wind would flatten it out. However, an east wind pushes the bait up to the surf so an east wind is good in moderation ;)
