@@BreadBoyWeeb Thats the point of trends and superficial brands (balenciaga, vetements, gucci, etc), brands you wear to flex, then if you want to become better you get into history, runways and more niche brands and designers, personally i love helmut lang and marigela, they are still somewhat popular but i wear them in a way that fits me and my personality and then i'm basically imunne to trends
Thank you for these videos JQ, they help me alot, i appreciate it
Rlly in depth video Mann, used 2 b heavy into fashion during the 2011-2015 prime Soho NY Tumblr era, this vid helped reignite my interest in diving back into that world thanks alot dude
Knowing about brands in general is really good for reselling. Bonus points if you know how to repair things. I'm from a developing country so I usually copy things from my favorite brands, jewelry from Vivianne Westwood; neglige and jackets from japanese brands. No shame in buying reps or making a good copy of it when you can't buy it. Due to lack of supply in your country you WILL be able to resell for a good amount of money.

Dude currently binge watching all your vids all night.

I love you Fashion Elitist, you're helping me get to my end game loot :)
"What best represents who I am as a person, and how I want to express myself?" You know, this is the key question which I think has kept me *stuck* for years. I'm a literal thinker, okay. How, exactly, do I represent and express myself through my clothing? I've spent way too much time trying to think my way to an answer, trying to consciously pick elements that'll match or symbolize aspects of myself, my values, interests, hobbies, etc. It's exhausting, and kept me from making any real progress. Things became a whole lot easier when I scratched those questions and replaced them with: "Do I like this? Is it comfortable? Does it make me happy? Do I *feel good* wearing this?" If the answer is no, then it doesn't matter how much it represents my degree in philosophy or my love for animals and nature or whatever. But the truth is that I have health issues which require me to put comfort over abstract representation of personality, so now the quest is to find clothing which is comfortable *and* makes me feel pretty/handsome/good about my body. That in itself is difficult enough. Anyways! That wasn't ment as a critique of you in any way :) Your videos, this one included, is helping me out a lot!
omfg an other video thanks god my day now is not that bad
oo would love to see a video about silhouetting and proportions
Love this vid and also you have really helped me I’m mostly in a skater category but I just thrift all my stuff but it works out because I love older clothing not necessarily oh vInTaGe but like good quality older clothing and older styles too
hey man I just got a quick question I've been wondering (seriously don't mean this in a pretentions or cynical way) ! why is there always a need for an aesthetic like techwear or punk and there isn't more focus on the individual? I feel like saying to "dress like yourself" but choosing a category that defines you is kindve counter intuitive. personally I just think it kindve takes away from the fun of fashion becuase every aesthetic just comes from people not going into a previously existing one but I guess for people getting into it and trying to build a wardrobe it's easier idk.

There are genres of fashion and subcultures to them which are identified with names of certain styles. Just like with music everything is labeled or categorized by their names which helps others find/identify certain sub genres of fashion. We are individualistic in our own means but regardless we still fall into a category of genre. I love the though put into the question might have to make a video about what "Genres" & "aesthetic" mean in fashion.

Honestly the more videos i watch off fashion stuff the more i realize i just want some basic stuff that looks good. I have ordered some (hopefully) good quality stuff with no branding etc and if it looks good on me I’ll buy several others in other basic colors and just expand from there.
loved this vid, opned my eyes a bit

Any tips for a college student trying to find her style? I'm on a super limited budget, but if nothing else, I've got way more freedom to try expressing myself with clothes nowadays!

gate keeping imo is necessary. if your really about finding your style you’ll do your homework and put in those hours into finding brands and pieces that resonate with you. at the end of the day gate keeping is a pride thing yes but i honestly think that same pride can further develop your style and interest in fashion.

@@fashionelitist I find a lot of your videos are a good introduction to their topics but they tend to just repeat common sense ideas or ideas that other content creators have already explained in depth. Some other "Finding your style videos" where I found value were David Moseer's take on it where he talked about making a set of rules for your wardrobe like 1 piece in 1 piece out and Brave New Wear's discussions about authenticity, personal uniforms and making mood boards because they both went in depth on topics nobody else has. A video that would be really neat to see would be taking a friend who wants help finding their style and actually applying everything you're talking about.

@@rdegans7809 that would actually be a super interesting video to make, I see what you’re saying, yea I definitely should expand on more interesting ideas that can bring something new to others. You mention “common sense” ideas, I’m assuming you’re already into fashion, so the steps I talked about aren’t anything new to you. Most of my content is for people starting their journey or those who haven’t thought “common sense” ideas. You’re right though I should still allow myself to bring in newer ideas that aren’t “common sense” big thanks for the new edge I’ll have going into the next video.
