    This is such a great video, Abi! This is actually something I have began coming into. I've recently realized that my obsession with Japanese culture, anime, and Asian typography for all these years was trying to point me towards discovering my own unique design Style. I began to look at more futuristic and tech wear fashion and design, and noticed that I really like designing in those styles. So I'm slowly uncovering my own unique style, and finding a lot of enjoyment! Your content has been very instrumental in me really becoming more real with myself and my design preferences. Thank you 3000!

    Oh wow Abi ! your advices really hit home on my side ! Especially the last one. I started graphic design a year Ago and experimented with many styles, and ended up finding joy and fulfillment and creative juices flooding from 3 different styles. I ended up believing that I have no personality for liking three styles at the same time. Now I hear you saying it this way, I think it was a good idea to keep up with the styles, it put me in a position of polyvalence. Of course, not every designer can master every style to suit every client, but hey, we can have many arrows to throw ❤ Also for the practice, I followed your work method when I first started and it made me LOVe to design. So in practice : I wrote down a list of businesses and brands' categories ( Shampoo brand, flower shop...etc) then created the brands from scratch, I created what my ideal brand would be, from the name to the rest and it indeed helped me master new skills ❤ Thank you so much for everything you share with us, you're lovely ❤❤

Im trying to do the same just to organize myself better. This business is to help me pay for college and I need to be really organized once I go back! Thanks 💕 sorry for my English!

    Hey!! I'm so glad my content was able to give you the push you needed!! You can add late fees into your contract and state that if the client doesn't stick to the agreed response time a certain charge will incur. This way they know they have to respond within those 3 days in order to stick to the given timeframe. It's really important to give your clients a timeframe so they know how to stick to the response and feedback times! Good luck with your journey!!

  • @abiconnick

    @abiconnick

    2 жыл бұрын

    Hey Nina, it's totally okay to like different styles. Is there a style that is the most dominant within your design business, one you gravitate towards the most and get most excited about? With designing your own brand identity this can depend on a couple of things. I know how hard it can be designing for yourself as there are so many options to explore. Are you promoting your business as a personal brand, or a business brand? If it's more of a personal brand (where you're showing your face) then this can be more of a reflection of you and your personality with a design style. But if it's more of a business brand this needs to reflect the target audience/consumer you're trying to reach. I know it can be easy to follow design trends and styles as a designer (I made this mistake in the past) and it made me want to rebrand every few months, so make sure you're creating something and using a style that is going to be timeless for your business. Hope this helps! x

    well, although I am just at the beginning of my self taught pursuit after a design career, I can tell you that I tend to lean into minimalistic kind of style with bold colors which call for an action. it more or less stands for the way I dress and my preferences in other aspects in life. would you mind if I showed something I designed?

  • @grace_thedesigner

    This hit home for me because I love both pastels, neutrals and bold colors. I'M STUCK! Is it okay to just talk in the middle of all lol 😂

    That's absolutely fine!!! Embrace both styles if that's what you enjoy, and hats off to you for being able to nail both styles (not something a lot of people can do). I would suggest getting really focused on your target audience and who you are trying to reach with the different styles. You might find a specific audience love the more vibrant and bold style and another audience prefer the more minimal style! x

    Only one of those is one I really opt one direction on - typography. Because I just can't draw. Mind you if someone else is doing the illustration or I luck out on the right assets to copy and paste and layer... I'm actually a 50/50 split/situation appropriate for those. I enjoy finished look/the aesthetic to the point I can get lost in others stuff or find OTHER great works easily... much better than I could do my own.

There will be youtube videos you can learn the basics of the tools from and by just doing tasks and jobs in adobe illustrator you'll learn as you go! The best way i learnt was on the job and when i wasn't sure on something i would google what to do! 5 years later here I am haha! x

    Here's a response I use: Thank you so much for enquiring and taking the time to answer my questions. I have limited slots for the year and have to be very selective about the brands/clients I take on. It's important that your vision and desired design style matches with my unique design style, so we can create the best outcome together! After looking through your supplied Pinterest board and understanding your vision and style more, i've made the unfortunate decision to not take you on as a client. I would not be the right designer to complete this job (with the design style I use) which would therefore mean me not producing the best results for your branding. I am happy to advise on some other designers that fit with your vision and style: 'list other designers here'. Thank you once again for your enquiry and I wish you the best of luck in the search for your brand designer for your business. Best wishes Hope this helps! And thank you for your kind comment, i'm so glad my channel has inspired you to full commit to design, how exciting!!!! Wishing you the best with your journey! x

    Hey Abi! Loved this, I feel confident in my style but recently realised that its my style + bright colours that light me up! I do not enjoy working in darker shades. Im also curious about how you go about saying no to requests. Im currently in a position where I say yes too often, and working on designs that do not 100% feel right slowly destroys the soul 😬

    Love that! I find I'm a bright colour person too! If I'm being honest I probably turn down over 80% of the people that enquire for my services, I get them to fill out a mini questionnaire which includes attaching a Pinterest board of the direction they want to go in, and if it doesn't suit my style, I simply just explain that, the majority of the time they appreciate the honestly because they want the best person for the job! Got to make sure you're enjoying your work!
