Identify Beat is an easy method that is effective at finding the tempo of your audio files in Pro Tools. Having your session locked to Pro Tools Bar|Beat grid gives you the power and ease when editing. I am using Pro Tools 10 in the video, but this will work on any Pro Tools system.
Step 1:
Make at least a 2 bar selection starting with the downbeat of the drums.
Step 2:
Zoom in and refine the top and tail of your selection.
Step3:
Enable Loop Playback and listen for a seamless loop.
Step 4:
Go to the Event Menu, choose Identify Beat.
Start Location- 1|1|000
End Location- 3|1|000
After you confirm that the tempo is accurate, use Grid mode and edit with ease.

Amen to that 🤙🏽
Just started using PT about 2 weeks ago upgrading from using Mixcraft for 10+ yrs. You've made the PT 'learning curve' that everybody claims to be so steep so easy. Any DAW is gonna seem complicated to a beginner, but once you get going, I've learned, its really just a matter of learning the layout/workflow of whatever DAW you're using thats 'new' to YOU. Thanks so much for these tutorials man, KEEP GOIN!

I come back to this video EVERY time I need to find the tempo. I finally heard you say 'hold down shift' when in slip mode!!! Before that I was always losing my selection when I clicked to try and adjust it. Thanks WW!

If you use tab to transient with this method it streamlines the workflow and takes out the extra steps of trying to get to right on the down beat 😉

nice thanks for the help !
You the truth bruh
Great video
big homie you teaching out here
since i came across your videos and i like what you are doing ill let on a lil secret to get the tempo every time in seconds. get virtual dj 8 drop your track on a turntable and you got your bpm. dial it in in pro tools. i been doin this since pro tools 7. works every time. try it and do a vid for the engineers.. also when you get virtual dj go to options and turn off tempo sync so your pitch slider will stay at zero but if you forget just click the button in the middle and it will jump to zero and your bpm will be correct
thx bro !!!!!!!
Awesome ... thanks for the tip...

THE MAN FUNNY AF AT THE END 🤣🤣🤣🐐
great video family, but how do I get my selection to stay in step one after I find the 1st tempo! every time I press spacebar after the 2nd bar the selection goes away
Man, greetings from Argentina! you teach really good. my question is about not the tempo, but the bars, i mean 4/4, or 3/4 etc. how can i find that on a song?
Wow, didn't know this, right on bra, good looking out.Does this work on pro tools 8?
Thanks for the information. Got a quick question. What if I was given a piano line to "Here and Now" by Luther Vandross. My client thought the tempo was (55 bpm) and he played to the click however its way off and fluctuating. I need to do something to get a meter in order to be able to sync this track to at-least be able to build the timing so I can orchestrate this. Normally my clients come to me but he sent me this Piano line from Out of town. I hope I explained this properly. THANKS AGAIN.
dope thanks
you are saving lives bro lol
Yo, BSL 561, same shit I said. Wavy, thanks bro. Shit simple now. Wish you the best. Cheers!!!
