How to Find the Best Exchange Organization | What to Watch Out For | Reviewing My Organization

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

Hi guys,
today I am finally coming to you with a video many of you have been waiting for for a long time. I am reviewing my exchange organization that I used when I was an exchange student in Texas in the USA a few years ago. Besides my own exchange organization, I will also be reviewing other exchange student organizations and tell you what to watch out for when it comes to organizations.
Some exchange student organizations include: Experiment e.V., TravelWorks, IST, AFS, AIFS, Ayusa Intrax, YFU, GIVE, Partnership International and EF.
Here is a link which might be helpful when choosing your organization for your exchange year:

I'm a former exchange student and I'm glad that you're sharing your knowledge about the different companies that arrange the hosting. It's important to hear personalized experiences from other exchange students. I saw the comment made by an exchange coordinator, and I find it to be unprofessional. If they’re employed by a company, they're biased. They recruit partially because they may get some compensation. Families and students may be hastilly matched. Without the exchange students they have no program. So they should care about the exchange students' experiences and their company's reputation!

when you were on your exchange year did you have a scholarship and if you didn't how much did you have to pay. And do you have really good grades to be an exchange student?

Hi! I'm a 17year old from south Africa and I'm in my last year of high school, I so badly wanna do an exchange year but the school in South Africa ends in November (officially in December). The exchange programs I found require me to leave for my exchange year in August/September but I want an exchange program that allows me to leave in late Dec or early Feb, are there any programs you know that would allow that?...

Hi, good question! That is a struggle I never had to deal with. However, I know that there are programs which only last for 5-6 months so maybe they can start later in the year? Do you maybe have the option of waiting from December until August so you can start a regular program and work in the meantime to have some more pocket money for your exchange?

I am a coordinator with EF- I actually thought you might have gone through my organization based off your other videos. I think you might be confusing the fact that they have a sister travel company that offers students the opportunity to choose to go on discovery tours during their exchange year with the assumption that a student can choose to go to L.A. or NY. They DO let students list states they prefer, but only a small percentage of students actually list a preferred state or area. I would say maybe 10% of students choose a specific time zone. 90% of the students don't list a preference, and 100% know that they might not get sent where they listed if they aren't placed by a certain date. I highly recommend you do more research before reviewing organizations-- you will be better able to accurately portray them instead of relying on limited anecdotal evidence and personal inclinations. Our student from the Netherlands this year was able to go to New York and Washington DC for a very good price because of the program's affiliation with the sister tour company. My whole family went too, and we are planning on using the tour options again to get next year's student wherever she wants to go. Yes- touring is more expensive than staying home, but it was a lot less expensive to do what we did with the EF company than had we tried to plan it ourselves a la carte! ;D EF has local coordinators just like your program did, and I assure you-- the students I coordinate get VERY personalized treatment!! I know and love them, and talk to them regularly, and those who were having problems were able to contact me whenever they needed all year. I've enjoyed all of your videos up until this one-- I think you could use some more preparation before posting. Thank you!!

Hi Summer, I think your comment is very valid. However, I politely disagree. My channel and all other channels like it can only ever be one thing: an individual sharing their experiences and personal opinions. It was never my aim to share 100% accurate and neutral facts. What I share is very individual and based on my feelings and what I have heard. I am not an educator or professional at all. I am sure you do an amazing job with your kids, I really am. They can count themselves really lucky that they have you as a coordinator. But as in any organization there are also black sheep that are not good to them. And unfortunately, I have heard about s few of them specifically with EF which is where my opinion comes from. So if someone were to ask me, I would recommend a different organization. I think that's only natural. But there will be thousands of others who will recommend EF and not the organization I went with. But on this channel, I have to be 100% authentic to my own opinion and can only portray the things the best way how. It might sound bad but I also simply do not have the time to dive very deep into the research for every single video. I work, I study and I try to do this on the side because I know how much it helped me out to watch these videos when I was going on exchange. But I never pretend to be an objective news source. I hope you can accept my point of view. In any case, I really like that you spoke up, It is comments like yours which are able to balance my perspective. I appreciate what we can do here together as a community. Because as I said I can only bring in one point of view which has its natural limits. So let's keep doing this. Let's talk about things and people reading these comments can then make up their own minds or do further research.

@@honey27003 I totally understand that your videos are about your experiences and opinions, and I get not having time to research the things you post about and review. While your opinions and experiences are beneficial in all of your other videos, and didn't require any research, I do think that this particular video was the one that deserved more time. Even if you have to delegate and ask someone to verify what you've heard, I truly think this was the one subject that you should spend time on. Honestly-- just for the legal aspect-- you're mentioning these organizations and showing their logos and talking about them ... I'd personally be worried about getting hit with law suits, you know? Just my own personal experience--- when you have a large audience, it pays to be responsible about what you say.

@@SummerVW1 In respect your opinion, however, again I am just a private individual. I don't earn any money for this. All I wat is to help young people out that are in the same situation as I was. Legally I think it should be allowed to say "I would recommend this/ I would not recommend this" without being part of a law suit. I mean look how many people are doing product and travel reviews ... To be you make it seem like you'e trying to threaten me into taking the video down. But the video is my authentic experience with only good intentions. I will give you the benefit of the doubt but if you keep bringing negativity into my life my negative opinion of your organization will only increase and I am pretty sure that of anyone who reads these comments will as well. I am trying to help young help and and that's it. If you don't like my opinion, please don't watch my videos. Let's all just stay away from this negativity. I want this to be a nice place
