In this Video we give you 4 Tips how to find the beat and also how to find the one in Salsa Music.
Tip No. 1:
Before finding the one of the Music, try to find the Beat instead
First of all, Salsa Dancers should know that the Beat of Salsa is 4/4. That's very convenient for us since of 90% of the Pop Songs got the same Beat.
Tip No. 2: Focus and understanding the structure of the Salsa Song.
Find the Highlights of the Music. A really great tip is to understand the Beat Signature of the Music.
In our online classes we got a really good demonstration for it!

If you listen to the Salsa Music properly you will realize that after after 4 x 8 counts something change: For example, more instruments / less instruments, the Singer starts / stops singing, big break, Refrain / Chorus is ending etc.
Tip No. 3: Listen to 1 Song over and over again.
If you already found one Song easy to understand the Beat or even the One try to listen to it over over again. Once you catch up to find the one, you can start finding other Songs. After Time you will realize that the structure of Salsa Music is quite similar.
If you are a Salsa Beginner check this Song: • ABRE QUE VOY (LOS VAN ...
This Salsa Song "Abre que voy" is quite easy to understand the beat, melody and for many people also finding the one.

Here a great tip. In clubs you can look at the other dancers steps and see when they step on 1.

BIG TIP - the "tumbao" or bass line, in some salsa songs, focuses its accent not on the 1st beat, but usually on the 4th beat. So......If you are doing "on 1" salsa, if you hold while the "tumbao" is played on that 4th beat, then you are doing the correct timing in salsa all of the time.

If you hear the 3-2 Son Clave rhythm, the strong beats will be the 1st and 4th beats of Measure 1 and the 2nd and 3rd beats of Measure 2. If you hear the 2-3 Son Clave rhythm, the strong beats will be the 2nd and 3rd beats of Measure 1 and the 1st and 4th beats of Measure 2. Almost an inverse of the above.
