@@tcs20264 hopefully your question has been answered but I^2 = sqrt(-1) so if i square a square root it cancels so it's just negative 1 so b^2i^2 =b^2(-1) = -b^2

Thank you Prof. Anil Kumar. I was a little bit confused about taking square root of a complex number , but now it is clear to me.
Although the result may be interesting, isn’t the reasoning up until you sub in values of (a) to get values of (b) only valid if (a) and (b) are real? In other words, a^2 +4 cannot be factorised over the real plane, and thus the other result although coincidentally correct, uses invalid logic to acquire it.

nice and to the point explanation sir thank U
We got a^2+4=0 a^2=-4 (as i^2=-1) We can replace a^2=4i^2 And a=+-2i. So we got imaginary number +-2i
Nice explanation🥰🥰🥰🥰
Cant i use the (a^2 + 4 = 0)? give me some explaination
@neutronzz3543

he did a^2+4 =0 can factor into (a+2i)(a-2i) which he did use
you can also convert it to phasor form and find the square root of that then convert it back to complex
This was great! Can you do this using Euler’s formula?

Very nice explanation. There's one doubt though. When you got the values for 'a' after solving the equation, how did you decide which value is complex and real? Because I get different answers when I did a = 3i and a = 2, instead of what you did.

I have a confusion sir Is it nessesary to take the first value of a as real number and if yes so the second value is always a imaginary number isit?
@MathematicsTutor
5 жыл бұрын
We started with a + bi, so b is the imaginary part and a is the real part. a = 3 or -3; Find b for these values. to get the result. Later half is showing that the result will not change even if you use a as 2i. Ignore it, if it creates confusion. Thanks

yea there is just split the complex number in a perfect square as the square of a complex number can be represented as a^2 - b^2 +- 2abi the given complex number in the video 5 - 12i can be written as 9 - 4 +2(3)(2)i which is 3^2 - 2^2 - 2(3)(2)i which is (3-2i)^2 so you get the answer directly in like 15 seconds

Technically we do not need to considerthe imaginary solutions of a=2i and a = -2I as z = sqrt(5-12i) = a+bi, where a and b are real numbers.
