My father died yesterday. I told him several times my testimony but he still wasn’t willing to give his life to Jesus. My heart is breaking thinking he may be in hell. Thank you for this.

I’m going through this as well. Mine died unexpectedly on February 1 of this year. It is excruciating thinking he may be suffering right now. I’m really struggling with how to process grieving and honoring his earthly life. The guilt I feel for not talking to him more about the Lord is indescribable. It’s like don’t even want to be comforted. This video helped a lot. I don’t know that we’ll ever get over this, but we can trust in the goodness of God. I hope you’re doing ok.

@@MB-wx4gp I’m so very sorry for your loss. My father and I spoke often about Jesus, and he said he believed in God but not the Bible. Said it has been translated so much who knows if it’s what was originally written, yet he never studied it or I don’t know if he even read for it. I’m doing much better, thank you. It’s been one year this month. I try not to linger on where he is right now. I think I’d go insane. But like you said. Trust in our Lord and His goodness. You said you feel guilt for not talking with him more? Did you tell him about Jesus? Did he know why He died and was raised? If you did and he did then it was up to him not you to make the choice to believe and receive the free gift. Please give the guilty feeling to Jesus, He can carry that load for you. @@Notevenone i’m so glad you’re doing so much better, though I’m sure you still have some rough moments. It’s a whole other level of grief, isn’t it? I resonate so much with what you said about not lingering on where he is right now because you think you’d go insane. The burden is too heavy for us to carry. I thank our Heavenly Father that His shoulders are so broad and able to carryt this load for us. Thank you for your response. It is comforting, knowing that there are others who understand this, though I wouldn’t wish it on anyone. Regretfully, I did not talk to him much about the Lord. I mean, I did talk about the Lord, but I never really took an opportunity to witness to him and explain the gospel and his personal need for a Savior. That is part of what I struggle with because it’s easy to get angry with myself for being cowardly. I pray that Lord helps me not be a coward anymore because I have other unsaved family members that need to hear the Truth. I will be praying for your continued healing and reliance on God for peace.

@@MB-wx4gp I have had a few beautiful moments with dad and I cherish them. Only Jesus knows dad’s deep thoughts and his heart. I pray that you don’t condemn yourself. Ask for forgiveness and do what you can do with those around you now. All my siblings know I am a Christ follower and they all know my journey. So they are all aware, it’s up the the Holy Spirit to do a work in them. I have done my part and I continue to grow more in Christ and they see this also. Thanks for your response. It’s so nice to meet someone who isn’t judging every thing I say. God bless and keep you.

This was very helpful for me. As I get older, I often feel the burden for unsaved loved ones, friends, acquaintances, and how to reach them with the gospel. I want to see all of them in heaven. I pray that God will use me in whatever way He may decide to, to reach out to the lost, whomever they may be. His will be done.

This is helpful! Especially the fact that we will have no sorrow in heaven (something to look forward to). And the fact we can be "sorrowful, yet always rejoicing." My thoughts- the Holy Spirit is the Comforter, and when we're walking in the Spirit, He gives us supernatural joy and peace in any situation.

This is such a sensitive topic. I do my best to comfort grieving friends that have lost ones but if they ask me "Is he/she in heaven"?, I can't help replying "If they believed in Jesus as their Lord and Savior". I don't know how to avoid that truth. I don't feel comfortable giving an unconditional 'yes' (i.e., regardless of their belief) nor do I feel it appropriate to ignore the question altogether. I wish I had a better way to answer. The video suggests to remind folks that God is kind and good (which He is!), but that doesn't really answer the point-blank question of 'did someone go to heaven?'. Can anyone give me some guidance on this?

When my mom died she hadn’t lived the Christian life or seemed to have a love for the Lord. I wasn’t there but I was told she accepted the Lord. But I wasn’t confident in the report. My mom had Ahlzeimers too so it was muddy water at best. But I was troubled about it and I sought the Lord. When I woke in the early morning hours it came to me clearly….that scripture where Jesus said, “I stand at the door and knock”………..and I KNEW He was punctuating the “door”, the DOOR at death’s moment, right then. Did He say she was saved? No. But I knew He was knocking at that moment. That comforted me greatly. If she had a moment of clarity, she may have received Him. But……regardless, He gave me peace about it.

We actually don’t know what happens in the last moments of a persons life, not one the father has given his son will be lost and yes God is just.

I think about this often...unsaved loved ones dying and me fearing it because I know their fate. I trust that God is just. He made heaven and hell. He’s given everyone a choice and the gift of salvation to freely receive. We cannot be guilty. Everyone has a choice!

But reformed Calvinism teaches that only the elect can choose salvation - the non-elect have no ability to believe, obey, repent, and choose salvation.

In order to have full and total free will you need to be fully informed and fully capable of understanding your choices and we know that’s very rarely the case there’s many people out there that just blatantly don’t understand what we preach or they were emotionally damaged by a religious person or they had a terrible life and never experienced any joy in there life so they found it hard to believe in an afterlife with joy are we to believe that god just says to them hey sorry buddy u had your choice good luck in hell your gonna need it

Dear one, I too have been struggling with this and have recently lost a family member very unexpectedly 6 days ago. I dont know where he is. As I've been crying out to God, I sense Him pointing me to His character of mercy, kindness, and perfect wisdom. I think the above video is very helpful to point us to Gods goodness. I don’t believe a loving God would allow any of us, his children, to suffer in eternal torment. I know all the arguments about Justice, but the bottom line is no loving God would allow this to happen. A God like this is not one I want to worship or be apart of. If this is religion and so-called live, I call 1000% bs.

I’ve been of a similar mind as you in my past when I started seeking the truth. Do not run away, it only gets worse - run *to* God. You’re missing an important part of God’s love in that he is also just. I was watching a guy named Cliff on Logan Paul’s podcast and he summed it up like this.. Tl;dr - If someone murders your baby and God says, ‘ehh, I’m not going to judge you’ when he faced God on judgement day, is God then just and is he loving you and your baby? The answer is no. And the problem is all of us are that murderer. We’re all evil. That’s why we need a savior. God took our punishment for us on the cross through his Son Jesus when we were at our absolute worst and undeserving of his mercy. Turn from sin and confess Jesus as Lord. Ask him for mercy and he will save you. That’s the good news! Romans 8:1-39 There is therefore now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus.

I agree that there will be no grief or mourning in heaven but I completely disagree with the idea that we will be rejoicing in the destruction of billions of human souls, made in the image of God, who we are commanded to love. This notion needs a lot more Biblical evidence than is given in this video. The passage referred to Babylon the Great and her destruction (Rev. 18) but she (Babylon) is not an individual person or group of humans. In the passage, she is described as separate to the nations, Kings and merchants of the world - so, she is not the lost ones themselves thus, in celebrating her destruction, we won't be celebrating the destruction of many of our loved ones. Really interested to hear any other Biblical arguments for this idea though!

@@letstalkbiblewithshun.s we will rejoice that Christ never fails he is a mighty savior he doesn’t try to save he does it and on the last day the lamb of God will receive the full reward for his suffering. God is so gracious everyday of our lives every breath is because of his grace. If God would give us justice everyone would go to hell, God doesn’t owe us anything.

Goats are never lost, only sheep. Matthew 10:37-39 King James Version 37 He that loveth father or mother more than me is not worthy of me: and he that loveth son or daughter more than me is not worthy of me. Matthew 12:50 King James Version 50 For whosoever shall do the will of my Father which is in heaven, the same is my brother, and sister, and mother.

God commands us, "Love your neighbor as yourself"...yet in the future it will be acceptable to God for us to behave as the priest and the Levite in the tale of The Good Samaritan, and turn away from the eternal suffering of that same neighbor or loved one? It sounds like that is the "change" John Piper is speaking of. It is a change completely against the fruits of the Spirit, and so I believe completely against the nature of God. For us, it would be a change for the WORSE. This type of interpretation of scripture is what we get when we do not read it through a Jesus lens, and when we lift metaphorical passages above other scriptures. Really sad. The God who is Love as shown by Jesus in the Gospels does not roast our loved ones forever. That is comfort.

What is necessary for us to get to Heaven is that we die with Gods love in our heart (only requirement). God offers the gift of himself to everyone, it’s a gift to us, it comes by Grace, we don’t deserve, but we can be open to it. The Church teaches that there was never a person that God did not offer that Grace. Original sin is the condition of NOT having Gods Grace when you are conceived, not having a share in, a participation in Gods own inner life. We also have wounds in our nature that creates an inability to live a virtuous life. Jesus gives us the gift of the Holy Spirit in Baptism, continuously nourishes us with Grace so that we can be transformed and conformed to Christ. Growing in holiness is the ongoing work that we were made for! The Gospel message is Christ comes to give us that share in God’s own inner life. St Peter tells us that through the promises of Christ we can become participants in the divine nature (Grace) and the healing of those wounds thru the infusion of virtues in our lives so that we can grow in wisdom and charity so that we can rise to the potential of being made in the image and likeness of Christ. This all comes to us through Christ, thru his example and teaching, and through our participation in his person in the sacraments.

Just to be very clear, is the point that is being made? That by seeing God in all his goodness, we will be at peace in the full knowledge that people we might have most intimately cared for, been shaped by and rejoiced with in life are suffering unbearable conscious torment for the next trillion years, suffering that totally eclipses the worst of suffering on earth day after day for another trillion years, and then after that another trillion years and then a trillion times a trillion years of pure agony they will realise that because this is for eternity that they are only just at the beginning of their suffering and after another trillion times a trillion years they will still only have just begun the being tormented. By seeing the infinite wellspring of all goodness we will look on those we love in this condition and rejoice... That is the most messed up and logically incoherent thing imaginable. To ever look on that predicament and to be full of selfless love and to call that good is to make it meaningless. If that is good then good means the same thing as evil. I pray that people will understanding that this soul-crushing wicked theology is not demanded of Christians. There were church fathers who knew the greek of the new testament, like Gregory of Nyssa (who was fundamental in forming the Nicene-Constantinopolitan Creed, i.e. if he isn;t orthodox then I don't know who is), and taught a form of universalism that the flames of hell were God's presence as the "all-consuming fire" that was a refiners fire that purified people so that in the end "God will be all in all". I understand that if you've been brought up being told you must believe in an eternal conscious torment it's scary to even doubt it so my comments aren't going to suddenly convince you. This isn't supposed to be an "aha, I got you" comment. But maybe you should think really carefully before you call something that deep down affects you as darkness, light. Something that seems really evil may just be that. There are serious Christians who you can look to in the past that believed this idea of universalism that still had a temporary hell (so there is still justice, maybe even for millions of years and then one is united with God and all their loved ones). I think all of us, in our moments of deepest love, could never send a child of ours to an eternal torment where they don't learn lesson and change but suffer with no end or purpose. We would, if we had the power, save our children. What then will God our good father, who is not just more loving than us but who is love do? Maybe get yourself the book "The Inescapable Love of God" by Thomas Talbot and at least give it a read. Whatever you do, don't be motived by fear, but come to an understanding of God that actually casts out fear with his love.
