How To Find Off Road Motorcycle Riding Areas: Where to Ride Dual Sport and Adventure Bikes Off Road

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

One of the biggest challenges for new dual sport and adventure motorcycle owners is figuring out where to ride motorcycles off road. There are a ton of options out there for some off road motorcycle destinations, but if you're new to the sport or to the world of wilderness exploration in general, then it can be hard to know where to even start to know how to find off road motorcycle riding areas.
I don't have it all figured out, but I've definitely picked up a few great tips, tricks, and techniques for figuring out where to ride dual sport and where to ride adventure bike off road. There are some areas that are reliably open for where to ride off road motorbikes, and I've got a few tools to share that can help you get started figuring out your local off road motorcycle riding areas.

When I was a kid you could ride all over private lands without a problem, then a couple of dingle-berries sued some land owners after crashing on their property. Some great trails was lost to riding because of people like that.

Great video :) I've been researching these things to prepare a list of places to go to help me get my dirt legs back under me in a fun, but safe manner. I want to do rides where I stay on NF roads for the majority of the ride except for the ride out of town. Specifically, I want to work up to being able to crisscross dirt roads as much as possible while riding out to the volcanos and Crater Lake, and the ice age flood areas, eventually. No super-crazy back country stuff, just dirt roads in various states of repair. I definitely need to get those apps on my phone, pronto, so I can learn how to use them properly.

Great info. I’m always on the search as most and, as you comment, the best thing is to 1. Get out and ride, and 2. Talk to locals. There are a ton of ADV class C and D roads near me but they’re intentionally kept a secret as once they become popular they are often gated. I’ve “discovered” more by just exploring backroads than I have ever found on an app or elsewhere. Again, good info.

Excellent guide for finding off-road riding. You're right. The most fun grows out of curiousity to see "where that road/trail goes." Butler Maps also has some good off-road maps for some states, mostly in the West. Also worth mentioning; Colorado, at least, requires a Colorado Parks & Wildlife OHV registration and permit, including fork-cover decals which have to be renewed annually. This includes search and rescue fees. Some companies offer off-road vehicle insurance. Progressive, for example, offers liability only insurance for as little as $75 a year. Prices go up with more coverage. Keep up the great work.

Thanks for the “responsible rider” notes at 9:00 - it’s crazy how many people think littering or messing up the land isn’t a problem. Great video and good resources! One tip - be aware that Avenza works with geo-enabled pdfs…not all pdfs. It’s additional information that tell Avenza where the pdf sits on the glove.

The highest point in my county is located on an Indian Reservation. Years ago you could ride within 70 feet of the summit with no restrictions. Then you had to park and climb the last 70 feet. About 15 years ago the tribe closed off the reservation to anyone other than residents and federal officials. The official word was that motorcycle riders were coming on the res and riding in areas where the were not supposed to be. Like across peoples farms. Although the rumor was that some of it had to do with tribal politics. The tribe opened the res to four wheel drive vehicles about 8 years ago, IF you pay a $25 fee. But it is STILL off limits to ANY type of motorcycle unless you are a resident. It just goes to show how some bikers can spoil things for everyone.

Where did you get that info ? There are state designated areas which are 100% legal, also federal land, trails, state run motocross tracks, and public motocross tracks. I’ve listed links in another post. Check it out. The places run by government agencies are very careful with where you can ride. You aren’t allowed to rip up vegetation, or ride anywhere you want. Access is limited, trails are maintained and closed, as are certain areas with vegetation to help nurture it back. I’ve seen that many times since in my riding. It’s not nearly as destructive as you think.
