How To Find Free Camping - Peace and Quiet in a Forest

In this week's video I spent 7 hours Saturday morning searching the forests of north central Minnesota for a perfect campsite. In the end I had to reminded myself that the perfect site isn't always perfect.
This weekend I found myself on top of a hill overlooking an old logging cut. I didn't have a lake, a river, or a trail nearby. But I found peace and quiet.
When I finally opened my eyes, I saw the beauty that mother nature provides this time of year. I needed a reminder of how I used to camp before the channel. This brought me back to a time before I was searching for the perfect backdrop for the camera lens.
I really appreciate you coming along for the ride.

It straps over the factory mirror and works great. I was running the Promido camera off Amazon for almost 5 years. The camera connection eventually let in water. I recently decided to install the cheapest one I could find on Amazon. The 49 dollar Jansite. I've only had it a few weeks. So far, so good. I showed the camera and a quick snippet of the installation about 3 weeks ago in a video. I'll give you the link to that video. When the camper comes off, I turn the camera off. It has a mirror finish, so it works like a factory mirror. kzread.info/dash/bejne/nqF7qMhrlcu2ps4.htmlsi=eyPvqyvmo96tSPci

I bet you're looking forward to spending time in the new camper! I have wanted a Northern Lite for the last 10 years. Back then, I couldn't afford to spend 13 grand on a 10 year old camper. Today, that same camper would sell for 22k. If I could only have predicted the future! But I still want one! I hope to get another 5 years out of my Arctic Fox. After that, I'd love to look at a Northern Lite.

Nowadays I just tend to pick a general area and wing it. Up in the California Sierras there are so many trees that you can't hardly even follow the main forest roads, let alone identify campsites on Google Earth. I have just lucked out over the years and found some amazing places. (And it is usually all National Forest, I have camped on Tribal land on several occasions in small, first come, first served campgrounds - actually some of the nicest campgrounds that I have ever camped in).

My upcoming six day trip will be at a National Forest campground. The Los Padres National Forest is still closed due to storm damage from last winter. No Disbursed camping allowed. $3000 fine per person. HWY 1 is still closed due to a huge landslide to the north, so the campground is basically the end of the road.

It is amazing just how peaceful and fulfilling it is to simply camp as you are doing, travel around in an RV. Doesn't need to be anything more than you are filming. I want a german sheperd for my travel companion, but I intend to do the same thing. Just buy a used RV or camper like that, and hit the road. I have never seen much of southern Colorado and northern New Mexico, and so I am looking forward to it. Don't plan on many miles a day, and I know I will enjoy beer and fire made food at dinnertime.

Kenny! I found a sweet deal local to me on a great shape 04 Arctic fox just like yours, me and the wife love it and have been using it so much. Thanks for the inspiration and always look forward to your videos.

That is awesome! Mine is also a 2004. I love my little apartment in the bed of my truck.

Great video! Thank you for the tips on finding spots to camp. Was curious how you did do that.

Another great video and I appreciate the info on how you find your spots! Bookmarked that OnX Hunt site, will probably put it to use when we get our camper; their site looked awesome. You looked a little more rested, any further consequences from your vacation ER visit? Always look forward to your videos, great drone work in this one, too! Have a great week!

I think I'm out of the woods with the kidney stones. I was going to see if Blue Cross Blue Sheild would reimburse the ER visit. I haven't looked into it yet. I really like OnX. All the information on the site is free public information. It can be located online if you look long enough. But they make it so quick and easy to access.

Enjoyed the video, thanks for sharing how you find your spots. I plan to use same idea to find some spots near Linville gorge. Have a great week.
