How to Find Chasm of Doom in Joshua Tree National Park
The Chasm of Doom is one of Joshua Tree National Park's many hidden secrets. It is a twisting hidden maze consisting of many tunnels, passageways, and tight squeezes through the giant boulders of Hidden Valley. It is NOT for the faint of heart or the claustrophobic. In fact, with his mild claustrophobia, Dustin had a bit of a problem through some tighter spots. It is an awesome experience for the adrenaline junkies. However, not only you'll need to be comfortable and able to fit in tight spaces, but you will also need to be able to climb, scramble, and boulder in the dark.

The BEST way to do this is a new moon at night with no headlamp. You have to have someone guide you through it for the first few times. But it is easily the greatest way to do this. If you run around hidden valley at night time and yell CHASM OF DOOOOOM youll get a good possy behind you and someone that knows the way
@LiveThatAdventure

That would be wild!! We have done it 4 times now and I still think we would need someone more experienced to do it in the dark. Might need a helmet too 🤣

@ThatAdventureLife honestly I've never seen it in the light before your video. It's just about staying on thr left wall then finding the birth canal and from there It's pretty easy to find the second hallway. The scariest part for me is doing the scrambling up to that tree at the start in the dark
Many years ago Chongo Chuck used to take groups thru there in the dark with headlamps. This was when camping in Hidden Valley was still free.

We did this trek in reverse- the scariest part was coming down to the coffin entrance from the viewpoint because you would just never know the way out was there so close to the ground. I felt like I was gonna be stuck in that hole until my fellow hikers showed me how low you had to get to squeeze through the coffin.
@LiveThatAdventure
Жыл бұрын
We want to try it in reverse sometime. The coffin is pretty terrifying no matter which way you come at it I bet. It took us 2 trips to realize that it was the way we needed to go! The first time we were like. there's no way that's it!
been there , done that. at the time 7 yr old daughter n i went thru the chasm of doom and thru the coffin 👍you can bypass the coffin by climbing up and end up where the overview is at. we've also entered from the other side going backwards 👍
@LiveThatAdventure

That had to be quite an experience for a 7-year-old! That's probably a good thing about the bypass. I am a little claustrophobic and the coffin definitely pushed my limits a bit. We would love to try it backward too.

Awesome video! I found myself in the Coffin or The birth canal today! Wow, it can be a squeeze at times! I'm 5-11', 190ish, and it was quite the adventure finding ways to slither in between,and up, and down rocks. There is a super tight traverse ( tighter than coffin with feet on a narrow ledge, but at least you're upright!) just before the coffin off to a pretty sweet view. Its a really fun and exciting hike/climb! Have fun and be safe!
@LiveThatAdventure

It's not called the coffin, generally refered to as the birth canal. But feel free to rename it as you please. Chasm used to be a local secret, but now there are videos and directions. Oh well, let the guides and videos exploit the delicate desert and soon we will have a 310 area code in the coffin, canal. Also, you never mentioned snakes. Lots of snakes in the chasm. That's how it got the 'doom' title. Have fun exploring.
