Trying to filter beer at home for the first time. Filtering beer after fermentation from the Fermentasaurus to a Cornelius keg. But the same filtering process would also be from keg to keg. So even if you don't have a Fermentasaurus or any other conical fermenter. You can just think of this method going from keg to keg. If you are a bit careful, I bet you could even use this same filtering method filtering your homebrewed beer from example a bucket to a keg. As this was my first time filtering homebrewed beer at home, I didn't do it with carbonated beer. But still using closed transfer and Co2.

Liked the video. If you use a filter I had read you must adjust the recipe to pull the flavors back up after the filtration. Have you read anything about how to make the adjustment? Guess it will depend on the style of beer. Was your ABV the same on both? I would think the filter would have no effect.

Try a 1 micron filter, transfer at 3 psi, transfer from your source to a lower receiving vessel (liquid is heavier than gas), and hold the filter body upside down to save losing too much beer. I watch this video just after filtering my latest Kolsch from a hazy to crystal clear in one pass theu the filter. I only filter if NOT lagering. Anyone else agree?

  • @jcinsaniac

Agree with other posters - I am surprised you get sediment with the fermentasaurus pressure kit - I thought the float would keep you from dragging lots of sediment - at least until you hit the bottom of the fermenter? I have heard this method works best with a simple 1 micron stainless sieve - not the fabric filter - because it strips flavor. (Which you confirmed.) Cheers!

Is it possible that the higher carbonation level in the filtered one is responsible for the more crisp flavor sensation when drinking it? Maybe you could either raise the carbonation level of the unfiltered beer or check the pH of the two beers to see if one is more acidic than the other. I've noticed a big difference in the perception of my american wheat beers since I started carbonating a bit higher than I used to.

DrHans Brewery apparantly it’s an old style Wheat beer which was one of the first to fall foul of the reinheitsgebot. ( My mate told me this as I don’t have a clue🤪) I think it’s because it contains ingredients that shouldn’t be there under the German purity rules. I like the sound of it though so will have a go as I like wheat and pilsner type beers.
