I think as humans, we overcompensate for the unpredictability of life to create symbolism for things we encounter and happen to us, to let go of the fault, responsibility or grief that life throws at us. We attach meaning to get through life. Understanding that not everything has to have a meaning frees us SO MUCH mental energy, it gives you the ability to accept and move on.

No Backup plan episodes had been on my todo list for a while now. This is the first episode I listen to, I'm only 40 mins into it and it has been an absolute delight. I am not much of a cooking person or enjoy cooking content but this has absolutely been an amazing highlight amongst my travels through the internet. Nathaniel and Alex, you must have another colab! Thank you for this.

Brilliant interview, the two of you clicked on many levels as you also learned from each other. Alex was very impressed with you and your deep insights into his purpose and what he was doing and who he was. I hope you develop friendship with him and thank you for sharing and allowing him to express himself more. I didn’t know he was an engineer, now he makes a lot more sense to me :)

Wow! This is such a great podcast, so stimulating, it was so artistic, beautiful, tasty, it was like best culinary experience of a conversation!!! You are such a deep listener and a sharp observer, loved your questions. The questions that you ask come from such a deep place of curiosity, your personal observations which makes it so real and powerful. A Big Fan ... you are the best! And Alex is so so so amazing, he is a fine balance of art and science... love him !

I waited a while to watch this, but I was really excited when I saw this came out. This is such a wonderful marriage of two people with ideas that spark!! I love Alex's vids and I relate to him a lot as someone who is not a chef professionally but is absolutely obsessed with food and cooking in the same way. It was great to hear him speak so much about his thoughts

Not to necessarily argue with Alex, but I think food and cooking can be an analogy for life. Sure, in cooking you often get to pick the recipe and the ingredients, which isn't always an option in life. But sometimes you just have to cook with whatever is in your fridge or pantry as well, or maybe your preferred ingredient wasn't available and you have to use a substitute. It's the same in life.

Alex, peut-être fais une vidéo pour demander l’aide du public pour trouver la solution la plus directe, marrante, originale pour nettoyer ta machine pleine de cafards avant de la vendre ou pourquoi pas, la donner à qqun qui en a besoin.

1:29:53 Hi! Not sure what quote you’re referring to, but this point that you’re discussing is the main theme behind the book Storyworthy by Matthew Dicks. It could have been a quote from him, but I wouldn’t be surprised if this idea has been discussed in a few places. Loved the episode! Up there as one of my favorites along with the Matt Dahlia episode.

Alex attempts to master or improve classic dishes in various cuisines from a engineering approach utilizing the scientific method; I don't understand how anyone can miss that and wonder what on earth is the point of some of his endeavors. Additionally, as an analyst, I really don't like the thumbnail of this video; for a lot of us, this level of dedication and type of thought process is part of a daily routine. Alex just has an amusing and cheeky way of applying it to cuisine, which anyone involved in the culinary field must concede is somewhat normal here as well.

Hey Nathaniel, I see that you put a lot of effort into making this podcasts. What I immediately recognised is that you use high quality microphones and cameras /lenses, but you don't use a studio light. This might sound like a crazy question but I would like to know if its on purpose or just the fact that there is no other option.😅 For me the background looks brighter then the faces and im always thinking "please turn the lights on"😀 maybe its just me...
