It’s crazy. I just practiced this nonstop for about two hours while I was watching a movie and by the time it was over I could do it. I can’t explain it. Cards are cool and weird man. The more you hold them and touch them the more they start to do things for you. Strange and magical little pieces of paper.

VirtualWoodshed this is such a weird paragraph. Part of me wants to say “what the heck, yes that’s how practicing anything works, no duh” but since I’ve actually been practicing cardistry I understand what you mean. It’s like, your fingers are used to moving a certain way and because the cards don’t change too much your hands just learn how to move with the cards. It’s so obvious from a scientific point of view but when it’s actually happening to you it’s an amazing thing that words can’t capture entirely.

This is definitely one of the better tutotials for this. I've been struggling with finger position, and right now I'm still either making a messy fan or playing 52 pickup, but I feel like I'm closer. Time and practice will tell.

Ellusionist I watched at least 100 shots of how to make a fan out of cards and no one could explain to me how to make a fan out of cards. ALL THE MERITS GO TO YOU (thank you)
The most important part of the fan is the left hand pressure - and he says very little about it. It's all about his index finger. So hard to find someone who actually knows how to teach.

You can create more space for the cards by starting with curled fingers and extending them as you spread the fan, and also you can adjust the pressure of the fanning to create a tighter fan (so less of each card is showing) and that will give more room for the final cards.
I thought it said "Dammit, gravy!"
i just wante to say thank you so much for this tutorial, and i love your memento mori playing cards!
Hey Chris and team ellusionists. I watched Chris video about some match magic tricks and there you asked, whether we have subscribed to the ellusionists channel. I thought I had not but then I noticed that I am all ready a subscriber for about a Year. That's probably because I needed to rest my magic training for the stressful college time. But now I want to get more into it and just want to say thank you for the opportunity team ellusionists give me and help me to improve my skills. So thanks a lot and have a nice day. :)
do you use plastic or normal cards?

Practice is essential. Even if the cards aren't great, you can still learn. Remember, card magic was mostly practiced with cards that were just thick paper.
Thanks Chris for your tutorial that's very good way to do the fan...
does anyone have tips for People with small hands

Start with the fingers slightly curled, and extend them as you fan the cards. This gives them more room to spread out.

Jimi Villanueva Get a new deck, maybe yours are rugged already.. i have small hands, learnt this fan by just 5 hours, my tip is : I tried spreading cards on a mat, (using right hand, muscle memory for spreading), then adding left hand, but still fanning like spreading on mat. youll get the gist of it, faster than trying straight on point fanning.
