The shock-load snapped the axle. Wheel lifts with high RPM are the enemy for axles. . If I was there, I'd probably recommend to pull the 3rd member off and inspect whether the damage is at the axle shaft or ring gear and pinion. It sounded like ring gear. When doing offroading, make sure you have lockers.

I don't think Limited has ATRAC. If it had ATRAC, it could act to slow down the lifted spinning wheel by applying break. TRD OR and Pro's have rear locker and ATRAC twhich are more suited to this sort of off roading.

Actually, a locker is pretty far down the list. Overlanding and Crawling are 2 very different things. All it takes is a little tap of the brakes and the newer 3rd gens have a pretty decent lsd, front and rear. While helpful, lockers aren't completely necessary.

It's called rock crawling for a reason, not run and gun. Putting after market parts on a truck doesn't make it stronger. All these trucks are not made as real 4x4 offroaders they are mass produced for malls, You still have to take it easy.

I get that Toyota makes some of their stuff here, but it’s a Japanese brand; market share & control ultimately flow back to their homeland. Miss the Jeep content & much prefer Ford, GM, & Ram. Oh well, whatever works for you; just seems like a big American audience dropped-off when you switched to a foreign brand.
