perhaps a video about improving "chess vision" would be cool. e.g seeing moves, noticing weakness, avoiding blunders. i mean maybe the answer is just 'practice and play a lot of games' but if there are any other specific tips that would be dope

Write down the things you need to check for (checks/mates, captures, simple threats, pins/potential pins, loose pieces, double attacks, alignment issues, trapped pieces), play slow games and before you move any piece run through the list. You'll soon be doing them without the prompt and at least from a tactical perspective you will be fine. I also find asking "what is my opponent doing" as the first thing after their move reduces your blunder count massively! If you see what your opponent is doing but mis-evaluate it, you can learn to fix that, if you miss their plans altogether you'll never improve. From an 1850 10+0 (i.e. not an expert but not an amateur).

I was familiar with a lot of these concepts already, but this was the most clear and concrete explanation of piece activity that I have ever heard. A lot of people talk about active or passive pieces in really nebulous terms assuming that it's obvious, when it's actually one of the harder concepts to grasp for new players.

@@lakshitsinghvi8692 I second this. I love the italian. It has been my favorite, my go-to opening for white ever since I started playing chess. For d4 players maybe the London? I mostly play e4 so not much experience there. For black, I suggest maybe stuff like the King's Indian Defense. Levy explained that it's one of those setups that you can play against almost anything. Though my personal favorites as black are the Caro-Kann and the Dutch.
