How To Evaluate AC Separations: Which Should Consider Surgery

AC Separations cause severe pain on the top of the shoulder. Some AC separations cause a bump. Our current thinking on who might benefit from surgery is changing. You can read more about AC Separations on our site: www.howardluksmd.com/orthopedi...

Grade 5 after snowboarding accident. No surgery. 8 weeks later full movement and no pain. Back in gym doing heavy lifting with only slight discomfort

It’s been over 20 years since my level 3. Over the past 3 months my bump has gotten significantly bigger and a bigger gap. My side to actions are extremely painful(putting on a belt). Heavy lifting is okay. What can I do?

I rode my bike and dropped it on my shoulder 1st week was pain and now I'm better, after a month of not doing any stressful work or anything I have no pain just a few parts where a little pop come up. Now I do have a difformity and I read I need 6 weeks to heal up, I don't think I need surgery because my shoulder sags about a half of a cm but I'm hoping I'm better after 3 more so I can go back to work. I'm 25 hopefully that will help a little

Dude looks like Bruce Willis. Also I have a grade 3 I think 6-7 years later it's catching and hurting when I exercise or wear heavy jackets. They sent me home from hospital with no surgery on the time of the injury. I'm concerned is my mobility going to be ruined? Have my tendons fused to the bone is it too late for surgery. Until today ive never even looked it up before ive just dealt with it.

Hi, I noticed that you guys didn't really talk about grade 4 ac separations...I was diagnosed as grade 4 after a bike accident. but it's been over 2 months and I've already back to my rock climbing with no particular pain. I'm currently 21 yrs old. I wonder if I would benefit from surgery?

Hello. I injured my AC joint from training BJJ back in September. I couldn't move my arm at all back then. Now 6 months later I still have pain after hard training and especially when I need to push a lot. I guess it was a grade 3. Do you think I should go do an x-ray and see if I need surgery?

Hey, BJJ team here. Landed on my shoulder with guy was a doing a harai goshi on me and landed himself right on top of my shoulder. No visible deformity or ROM loss, but pain 3 months into it. I'm still hoping to ride this one out without surgery. How are you all doing?

Hi guys... My clavicle stable in most places but it will.come.out at some angles.. or some tensions. But it's only been 2-3 days. I'm taping it down now.... But in neutral position there barely any deformity. The deformity occurs when I take my left arm ( injured arm) and being that across my body like that shoulder stretch of I do that the clavical comes out... But again it's only been 2-3 days...

But I still use bands to help as there is sometimes too much pressure for the shoulder. Still not 100 but definitely see how it's.possible to get there without rigorous training
