When I came to this country that’s exactly what I said. That was 15 years ago. As I got older, I told myself at 20 years old, 2020 and seeing all these courses. I’m like “we are learning how to be human. that’s crazy.” the thing is that’s our normality you know. Now there are communication courses because people have fear of speaking meanwhile it’s a natural habit we do. It’s just society has suppress us into “uncomfortable.”

Thank you for this video. I am currently 17 and developed a phone addiction during the pandemic. As the years have gone by I've felt like I've slowly been losing parts of myself, my hobbies, my drive. I only recently realized just how bad a problem it is and became terrified that I had irreversably stunted my brain developement. This video gives me hope. I'm going on this detox and am determined to find myself again.

Just turned 20 the beginning of this month and I felt my teenage years were wasted, being stressed and full of anxiety, constantly comparing myself on social media etc. I wanted to take the last few months to really try and practice and get into a habit of bettering myself and I think next year starting January I’ll fully go on this phone detox. Pandemic 2019 and getting TikTok really didn’t help with the whole gen z being addicted to the phone thing and I hate that I’m a product of it. I wanna live life actually and not fantasize it through a phone and rot away. I really think this video was very helpful and it’s comforting to see ppl around my age trying it too

I’ve been there. It is difficult to get out of the cycle, but it is possible. Start little: sit on the bed for a couple of minutes, breathe in and breathe out; when you go to the bathroom, leave your phone there, it’ll make you get back to get it... I know these examples seem worthless, but it is easier to start with simple things. Don’t feel disgusted, you have a role to play in this world, may be small or big, doesn’t matter the size, it’s important. I hope you get better soon, lots of love to you. I’m a christian, so I’d like to share a verse in the bible that has helped me remember that many have gone through what you and I have experienced: Elijah was afraid and ran for his life. When he came to Beersheba in Judah, he left his servant there, while he himself went a day's journey into the desert. He came to a broom tree, sat down under it and prayed that he might die. "I have had enough, LORD," he said. "Take my life; I am no better than my ancestors”. Then he lay down under the tree and fell asleep. All at once an angel touched him and said, "Get up and eat." He looked around, and there by his head was a cake of bread baked over hot coals, and a jar of water. He ate and drank and then lay down again. The angel of the LORD came back a second time and touched him and said, "Get up and eat, for the journey is too much for you." So he got up and ate and drank. Strengthened by that food, he traveled forty days and forty nights until he reached Horeb, the mountain of God. (1 Kings 19, 3-8) This story has helped me because it shows that even 2.000+ years ago, people felt the way you and I have, and even asked God to let them go. But even then, they were able to recover and reach their destination. They had to walk and rest, so it took days to get there; slowly but steadily they arrived. I wish for you the same, get well soon and have a wonderful life 🙌🏻

The way you refer to “ADHD” seems like your describing the desire to focus and carry out action, not being judgmental, just seems like from my perspective there’s no need to label a characteristic of human nature as as disorder.

  • @Mistert441

    @Mistert441

@@ripwinter562I think you might have misread the comment… they haven’t described ADHD, they just have the desire to focus - as well as ADHD, which makes it significantly harder to carry out action. I also have diagnosed ADHD and I relate to the idea of KZread addiction more than anything else online. I have avoided social media, but I waste so many hours at a time on this platform. After watching this video, I am deleting the app. I have finally realized just how destructive it is to my life and my goals. I think I made up my fully when he mentioned the thing about opening an app with a specific video in mind, because I often don’t. Anyways, I am looking forward to the self-reflection and (hopefully) better productivity. Good luck everyone, wish me luck as well - let’s hope I don’t just find another outlet - and with that, goodbye.

I had a professor in 2020 who gave us enough extra credit to bump us a letter grade if we would give up all social media for the semester. It was the greatest semester of my college career! I had way better grades, more friends, more calm and peace, more confidence, more self control, I was more active, slept better, and had so much more fun! Now, I’m a mom and deciding to take a break. I don’t want to waste away my time with my 6 month old baby. He deserves a fully present mother who has all those things again. I’ve spent the last 6 months being anxious and stressed over what a total stranger on the internet has to say about all the right and wrong things to do for your baby. It’s done more harm than good! I love everything you had to share! I started my break 3 days ago, and I feel the lows of not getting that dopamine hit all day, but I’m filling my time with more meaningful stuff!

It’s been 22 months since I left social media. I have no regrets at all. I got sick of people gossiping, drama, negativity & people faking their lives & friendships and sharing everything that should be private or craving attention with provocative pictures & selfies. A number of things I realised: 1. People who added me as “Friends” didn’t really care about me. They were “So called Friends” 2. When I was going through my hardest times, including anxiety, upset, trauma and stress, Nobody was REALLY there for me or reached out to me. 3. Certain posts or videos get blown out of proportion or completely taken out of context even if it’s nothing negative. 4. People lie about the amount of friends they REALLY have. Who in the REAL world has 100s or 1000s of friends WHO?? 5. Communication is very one sided. The same person had to make the first move to start a conversation as the other person doesn’t make an effort themselves or just can’t be bothered. 6. People lie about their lives, they only show the positive side of theirs lives which doesn’t show the real truth about the person. You can’t tell and don’t see if someone is REALLY depressed, upset, isolated, lonely, feeling suicidal or what’s actually going on in their actual lives. Even if people post how they really feel, people don’t always care. 7. It makes people fake and insecure. It’s not just school kids or teenagers in college or university, but adults as well are being fake & insecure. 8. People compare themselves to others just to get more “likes” & comments. 9. Social media has increased loneliness, isolation. Anxiety and depression which can be severe. 10. Due to social media and the increase in technology, it’s causing destruction & destroying peoples lives in the sense of their is no sense of unity, community, love and nobody wants to help each other. If they see someone doing something constructive and productive and they’re doing well, people will laugh at them in an act of ignorance, and cannot wait for them to fall down. 11. Having a proper conversation or being real is considered not normal and people think it’s creepy. People don’t like having real conversations 12. It’s made people to be narcissists, self entitlement, ignorant, prejudice and bullies. 13. People can say things or make comments that are abusive, racist, sexist, ignorant, prejudice, misogynist, homophobia, xenophobia, discrimination openly online, rather than to your face. 14. I have seen Boys & Girls take provocative, selfies / pictures to get attention from so called friends / strangers, sometimes in a negative way, for example, woman having their chests hanging out, body image, men & women showing off muscles, six pack & more. 15. With social media & the young generation with regards to friendships, people feel that if they add someone as friend request and they accept it, they automatically think that’s “friends for life” people need to realise that’s not how friendship really works. I never had TikTok, Twitter or Instagram. Glad I didn’t sign up to any of them. Facebook was the only social media platform I had and it was recommended to me back when I was in my 20s. I only use KZread as I can look at interesting things like cooking recipes and motivation videos and music videos of festivals & concerts and more fun stuff. I enjoy going out in nature, going for walks, bowling listening to music and learning new hobbies and watching movies. Since leaving it’s been the best decision of my life. I enjoy life more, I can now enjoy doing the things I do or want to try without being judged or told what to do without being made to feel guilty. I feel more happier and a massive weight has been lifted off my shoulders. I think if social media disappeared forever, I can guarantee people will spend REAL quality time with friends and family. People will know who their REAL friends are and that they will do things together and have a good time doing it. I also feel that people will have proper conversations and listen and engage.

I've been doing this detox for the past month and it genuinley has changed my life even in this short time. Because of work, i kept Instagram on my phone but I'm rarely on it. Honestly I've been slowly tapping out of social media recently (not fully) and it's nice to know how you mentioned being okay with being bored. I take walks without my music, stand in line without the anxiousness and just have lil random thoughts it's nice. I'm still on reels and tiktok and the scrolling is hard to quit but this video definitely helped. It's nice to just eat without anything happening. We've been literally taught to think to be able to enjoy a meal, we HAVE to have something to watch or do, even vice versa like people not being able to enjoy mobies without popcorn and snacks, etc. It's nice to indulge in the stillness because before you know it, doom scrolling will have your whole day passing by then all of a sudden it's night, then you do it the next day and the next then 2-3 years go by and you've aged. I'm a creative and I keep a lot of apps for desktop use only but I'm not fully out of it all the way. Just wanted to say thank you for this. This was real helpful. We all fear loneliness and that's my fear once I'm completely tapped out of everything. Also you see quite the content and forums/tweets that get you angry with people you wouldn't even hang around irl so that's just something to think about.

thank you for commenting this, its nice reading about other people going through what i've been experiencing! i was just thinking the other day about how 'shower thoughts' are in reality thoughts everyone could have at any given point in time if it wasn't for the fact that we're constantly getting absorbed by our phones. even the showers have stopped being places to be left alone with our thoughts as we even started making playlist to listen when we shower and such !!! these past weeks i've started to get comfortable with being bored, with being me. it's been nice. i don't feel the compulsive need to distract me every second of the day as i once did. i finally can feel peace between what i want to do and what i actually do (not using the phone too much). about your last sentence, this is an interesting video i've watched related to it!! you may like it kzread.info/dash/bejne/mKl6zq-titDciZM.htmlsi=ERtP2qGsA45Zc020

You can tell he took the time to really look into it and it’s well-organized. I discontinued social media use when I was around 18 years old. I am now 20, and I've redownloaded only Instagram back to my phone within the past couple of months! To this day I genuinely believe that, that large break from social media was completely necessary, and the foundation of my self-concept; growing up in this generation, social media use was quite literally wired into the networks that exist in our brain and definitely neglected so so so much development and figuring out of the self. I totally agree with everything you're saying and I'm glad you are spreading the message. Jaron Lanier is one of my absolute FAVORITE teachers on the topic. I started attempting this detachment from my screens several months ago and have run into a lot of challenges. Some things that have helped is to keep a journal. Every time I feel like I really want to turn on my screens I write in my journal first instead and try to pinpoint what I’m wanting to get out of it and thinking about if there is another way to meet that need. I have discovered that a big reason it was hard for me was because I was afraid of doing nothing. I felt like I had to do something else instead, so if I was tired and everything else sounded like work, I didn’t know what to do with myself. Since then I’ve embraced just pacing around the house and staring out windows sometimes. I realized my brain actually needed that space at times.

Im going to go on a full detox, in quitting porn, indulging in excess food, and senseless short form content. Hopefully it goes well, thanks for the motivation.

@laylasummerrose I have been slowly easing my way back into using stuff like Twitter, but I won't lie, I've been feeling great. That small amount of time away genuinely gave me the boost I needed for a while. Been really focusing on getting my weight down and I'm even starting work soon! :))

@@tetsusylon that’s great to hear!! keep it up! deleted my socials yesterday and plan to stay off them for a long time if not forever because they also mess up my mental health/depression and this gives me good inspiration so thank you. also good luck with starting work, hope all goes well.

For those that have tried deleting social media and always found themselves caving in and downloading again i recommend transitioning out of the apps instead from no phone in the morning, to no phone on the toilet then no phone before completing a task (cleaning/cooking) to most importantly no phone 30mins before bed, then 1 hour then 2 and ideally at some point it wint matter anymore Small moments = no phone, longer moments ect = different fillers (hobbies/chores/education,.. ect..)

this all makes so much sense! and I truly appreciate this advice as it is a different perspective I can relate to more. since I am on the younger side and social media seems to have a big affect on me. I've been planning on deleting my social media for a while now. as I started restricting myself since about early October but it has been a slow process but I have saw little benefits and so have the people around me, I also feel a lot better. Now for new years I am thinking to commit to the detox and delete them all together. this video really helps me understand what to maybe expect and how to deal with that. so yeah ty 💗💕

After years of detox for myself, I’ve come to YT not only to consume knowledge, but to build my own channel. Thanks for the tips. I’m proud of my timeline as your content has shown up here. I hope you’ll add coaching coaches to your arsenal as well since YT and workshops are so monetarily fluid 😉 . Keep 👏🏾 Going 👏🏾. You’re doing great work here Young Man

im an artist in my senior year of high school, and i find that i have both a beneficial and toxic relationship with tiktok, mainly with the way there is always so much art that i'm looking at. i find tiktok is good for inspiration, but on the other hand, i compare myself way too much, and i scroll and scroll and scroll. i spend too much time focusing on improvement instead of just enjoying the creative process. i only found your videos today, but they're already encouraging me to think about how i can begin to pull away from this relationship. if i want to truly advance my career in art, then i need to prioritize myself and focus on the moment. thank you so much, and i'll do my best to keep up with your videos from here on out!

Thank you for this video, it really helps me to know that I’m going to start a detox of social media, recently I feel like I’ve been wasting a lot of time on the phone perhaps I have projects and things I wanna do on mind, and I feel bad with myself for knowing it but without being able to change it. It’s scary how social media creates a necessity for consuming content and made us addicts to it.

What I noticed is how Snapchat, KZread and even Amazon now has REELS. This is what I struggle with the most. The fact that KZread put reels really screwed me up because now I just chase videos that are super short anything longer than a minute I just scroll even if I found it interesting. I related to everything you said, thank you.
