Not sure if anyone will be interested but for anyone struggling to get the engineering menu I found a fix for my car. Recently acquired a 2017 a class with the audio 20 ntg5 or 5star1 the engineering mode didn't work as shown in the video, I tried the reset settings via the steering wheel which also didn't work however by using the wheel on the centre console and the infotainment screen performing the reset this way allowed me to enter the engineering mode

This doesn't work for me and I have the same radio. If I push red, 7,and 9, I can get the dealer menu, but it doesn't allow changes.

Hello, I did a reset in the menu where button 3 is pressed. Then I went into engineer mode and configured the parameters to be able to activate android auto, in addition to other parameters that I wanted to modify. Well, everything works fine for me except when I make a phone call, the audio and the microphone don't work and I don't know why. The phone connects perfectly and I can listen to music from spotify with my mobile but not the calls, the car is from 2018. Could you help me? Thank you

Hi, few people who have activated AA through this method have run into this issue so you are not the first. The only thing I can think of is there is a specific firmware version that the AA needs your audio system to be so when it's activated this way, it almost activates with that bug and the only way to get around that is to update your audio system firmware and if you do that then you will lose the ability to enter engineering mode and Mercedes locked this in their latest version. The only solution I can think of is when you are on a call you will need to switch to either Bluetooth or the phone speaker.

Hi Mani, I have the exact same Audio 20 system. All your softwareversion etc information is identical on mine. (I compared it) I used the OBD2 activating tool and Apple Carplay started to work. I also got an extra icon for Android Auto, but I can't get Android Auto to work. It keeps saying no device connected. On your videos I see you are using Apple Carplay. Did you try Android Auto in your car or did you just test and use Apple Carplay? I'm trying to find out if the Audio20 system needs an update before Android Auto will start working.. Thanks in advance!

Yes its disabled by Mercedes in some version of the audio20.

How does mercedes gla 180 work? I tried pressing hang up +#+1 but it didn't work. thanks for your video

Can you make a updated method for those who tried it and didn’t work (my head unit / system is exactly the same as yours the only difference is your heated seats buttons are silver my heated seat buttons are black not sure if that makes a difference)

Yes the black buttons are for the older audio systems. So you have an outdated audio system which looks similar but its not actually the same. Do you have your VIN number and I can clarify that for you?

@@vryan4071 thanks for checking that but I am afraid this is not compatible. It needs to be only NTG5 or NTG5.1, if it has /5.5 those systems are not compatible as they do have any hardware for carplay or Android auto for you to activate so you will need to retrofit hardware in there first.

Same for me...I have a GLA 200d 2016...the combination doesn't do anything. I am able to get into dealer mode though using hangup+3+* but that doesn't have any settings. @manisureal do you know why?

Yes by default in some Mercedes vehicles its disabled. I will need to make another video on how to enable it, if you cant get in. Once again, its down to what software version you have so it may/may not work. I will post link to video once it up.

Hey Mani I have seen on the display it’s possible to have the engine data dials on screen. My AMG doesn’t have the engine data option in the vehicle settings page! Can this be turned on in the engineering mode? Thanks

@@chriswalker5582 I’ve been in touch with Mercedes about this, not very helpful! They say it can’t be done if not from factory! I ain’t 100% convinced on that yet. I have a 2018 177 CLA 45 AMG but it doesn’t have the engine data on screen option. I have the car booked in to a local Mercedes Specialist next month and while it’s there they are gonna have a look in the engineering mode to see if they can activate it. If I have any luck I can let you know how they got on. I haven’t been able to open the engineering mode myself yet, it didn’t work on my panel!

@mrmagoo600 i was messing around in the engineering mode today, before i started i never even had the engine data screen to select in my menu, i managed to find that and activate it, although it only shows me the g-meter dials and not the boost etc, i will try a few more options tomorrow.

@@chriswalker5582 oh wow ok 👌. Yer I don’t have engine data come up at all either. I’ve not been able to access the engineering mode yet due it being locked on my system. , he has released a more recent video showing that a system reset in the dash display should un lock the feature to then access the engineering mode. But it will reset everything that’s been customised such as sound settings, stations etc which I don’t think would be hard to set back up again. Would be interesting to hear how you get on. Thanks for the update

@mrmagoo600 yeah mate i had to do a factory reset on mine to get into the engineering mode, once in there, theres an option to switch on the engine data but it still doesnt show the gauges, just the g-meter, i will try again today, fail on that i will be swapping the screen out for an android screen and load the torque app into it with an obd2.

When I do exactly tha same with you the screen appears no information and the engineering mode doesn't appear

That shouldn't be possible and if it is then that means someone has retrofitted a B class infotainment system instead of a cla one. It should work the same regardless of showing B Class.
