I like this video because of it's honesty. There is no magic bullet to get rid of cat urine odor once the cat urine crystallizes. I had to lift carpet, toss the padding, test the carpet first, apply a ton of enzyme, let it sit for days, test in warm humid weather, finally use hydrogen peroxide, dry and seal the sub-floor with shellac before I got rid of the smell. I must have repeated the cleaning process 20 times before no odor was present on warm humid days. Finally I was able to sell my home.

Thank you for doing this video. We have had the same horror as Linda. They had 12 cats in this property we have just purchased and the damage is astounding. We have gutted everything we could and are now on day 5 of soaking in the odour remover. The front section of the house that dates to 1840 is responding much better than the back half that is only 5 years old. I suspect it's because the new materials are mostly compressed fibre products and not like natural timber and stone. I'm still a bit teary and I sway between optimistic and pessimistic several times a day but it is getting better. I fear that we will never truly eliminate it fully. You have given us hope at least. Thank you.

I just bought a flipper house and the owners must have had a puppy mill inside. Every room and inch of carpet is saturated with urine. I had to wear a mask to go inside the bedrooms. i will remove all the carpet, pads, lower drywall and try to get the smell out of the concrete floor. It is a huge 1760 sq ft house, so it is going to be a tough clean up.

I was a breeder of Persian cats for several years. The thing that worked for me the best in removing cat urine odors is rubbing alcohol used straight. For carpets shampooing them with Mr. clean and hot water in a rug shampooer works well. After shampooing the rugs if they still smell, l spray carpets with straight rubbing alcohol. You can later soak the alcohol up with a dry towel or and leave it on and let it dry. I have not seen any damage to furniture or carpets using this. In my experience vinegar, ammonia or Clorox does not work well with cat urine and I would not recommend them.

after urine dries it leaves behind crystals which continually attract moisture, and that in turn creates mild and mildew. The enzymes in this and other products eat the crystals, it digests them. This this is not just masking odor, it's crucial to the health of the air in your home.

Just purchased a flip house that had 5 Rottweiler's and 2 cats. The 5 Rottweiler's lived in the garage. It took 10 minutes with a pressure washer to remove the newspaper that was embedded into the garage floor. Were going to try Odor Fix Plus. You can only get it directly from the manufacturer at $140 per Gallon which is cheap compared to $300 for Rust-Oleum Epoxy Shield Garage Floor Coating. That's $100 plus $200 labor. I will let you know if it works. Also I ordered a Black light flashlight to find the stains. That was only $13.00 on Amazon. If it is only in certain area's I will buy a pint instead of a gallon.

I would assume so. You could read the label to verify, but I don't see any reason why it wouldn't. I know that it works better than an oil based primer (like KILZ which does a good job at sealing odors but not as good as a shellac based sealer like BIN or ZINNSER). Just be sure to verify it is SHELLAC based, as they might make a water based, oil based, and shellac based product, so there might be 3 similar looking cans in the store.

I am not sure. Tile is normally not porous and does not absorb anything... so I don't think the smell has gone into your tile, unless it is a natural stone like slate, in which case it might have. However, the smell has probably gone into your grout, as that is porous and will absorb. I would suggest covering the entire area with odofix or a similar enzyme product, then covering the entire area with plastic for days. Keep the area saturated with the solution, give it time to work.

A cheaper solution (though not as good) is vinegar and water. My girlfriends cat has been having issues recently where he urinates on the bed if no one is watching. Same with the couch, I mixed one part vinegar three part warm water and scrubbed at it until it stopped smelling. Theres a few other ways, been using incense to deal with the smell of the couch, that dried up before I got to it. Done a good job so far eliminating a lot of it but it still lingers on one of the pillows.

First thing my dog did when going inside was pop a squat.... shocked me since she was older and potty trained. so i bought a gallon at home depot (about $10/gal concentrated) and literally poured it on floor then spread it w mop to cover the entire floor. Opened all windows n left for a few hours. it was still wet in some areas but just mopped over w soapy water to remove it....pets probably sldnt walk in it, since they lick their paws.

I have two bedrooms with a concrete floor partly damaged with the smell along some of corners and some parts along the walls. i cleaned it and dried it well. So it did not work, and i wish i could have seen your video before. I am going to treat the areas exactly the way you showing on the video and give it some time to work it self thru. i would like to ask you if i could use this same product also for the wall about 10"- 12" above the floor where they meet, Is it possible, or is there another way that you know, that could work other than replacing partly a Sheetrock? The Zinsser B-I-N Primer seals the smell in so it can't get out. This is the same approach hotels take when they want to convert a smoking room to a non-smoking room. They treat all the walls, ceiling and flooring (carpet removed) with a sealing primer. They do this because trying to clean out the smell is impossible.

There are many many different urine exzymes and strategies. Head to head comparison just like project farm does, would be needed. It probably comes down to a few that don't work, and for the rest it is all about price per gallon. The problem I have with a concentrate is that the mixing ratio on the label is for the weakest solution for the lightest of products. So, a 16 oz bottle that is supposed to make 5 gallons, may only make a gallon or 2 on really tough areas. The pre-made formulas would not be able to get away with this and need to work on tough areas or everyone would leave bad reviews.

Remove smells - tried it personally For clothing or fabrics-Use washing liquid with ENZYMES. soak clothing in fairly strong solution of wash liquid with water for an hour or two. (longer the better), then wash normally. Also if cat has been spraying in the house mix laundry liquid with enzymes 50/50 with water. put in a spray bottle, spray affected area thoroughly, leave for 30 mins to one hour before wiping down, Laundry liquid generally does no damage to surfaces. Enzymes attach the pee, laundry fragrance covers the smell until enzymes wipe it out.

My cat has been peeing in the two corners of my dining room on my wood floors! I finally caught her in the act tonight! She is a big cat and is very naughty sometimes, scratches everywhere. This was 3 years ago, it took me months to train her to use her litter box instead of my house.

I have not tried other products but I know that there are similar products on the market (containing live enzymes which is most important) I would assume they would work just as well

The link to the product is not in the description. There are several urin enzymes on the market, which you imply on the video that you have not tested, head to head. Price per gallon, per square foot, is probably the only difference, which you don't cover. I am not sure if I will bother to re-watch and find the name, for a product only sold locally, or is not cheaper than other products. If it were a price choice, you would have said it. I do hardwood refinishing and could use a cheaper alternative to the enzymes I use. I had one cat that peed on an 81 square foot area, so I bought 2 gallons of generic nature miracle, drenched the carpet, then ammonia drenched and shop vacced every inch, followed by an oxyclean drench and shop vac every inch, followed by a rinse and shop vac. This took several hours, but I was able to beat the cat urine. However, there was on incident where my mother in law broke my house rule of no shoes or dogs. In a very brief 1 minute event, she walks in in her shoes with the dog, who instantly pukes profusely in the center of the room. ..... I was unsuccessful at removing that smell on that spot no matter how many times I hit it or what, then shop vac. My hypothesis was that no enzyme will work fully. So, the ammonia would dissolve the crystals and the shop vac would extract the dissolved solution. The oxyclean was just insurance and might remove anything left and it had minor perfume or clesn smell. The rinse was because the oxyclean left a stiff residue. Soak, and 5 horse 3 inch hose shopvac to dry inch by inch. I just bid a hardwood floor with urine smell. I figured drenching and sealing with a supposedly dewaxed shellac sanding sealer by zinser. She intended to have the floors polyurethaned in a few years or less, and needed a quick fix to use her downstairs a upholstery work area until she recovered from a large state tax bill and could again afford a commercial space.

Thank you!!! I scrolled down and was glad to see the spelling (I couldn't find the product until I put all the words together - odorfixplus.com). I like your thorough presentation, and I figure that a man who flips houses probably knows what he is talking about!

the only suggestion i have (and this may not work) is to buy that odofix product, at odorfix.com. I have heard that there are similar products on the market, but make sure it is an alive enzyme. You need to soak the affected areas for DAYS... and possibly even WEEKS. Cover the area with plastic so that is doesn't dry out. It works best when it stays wet. The enzyme solution will eat away at the smell and it will be released into the air so you will smell it coming out, which is good.

Has anyone tried this "Odorfix Plus" Product on carpet? If so how effective was it?

  • @bhaufschild
    @bhaufschild11 жыл бұрын

sounds like you have a major problem. I would guess that odorfix plus alone will not be enough to eliminate all that odor. You will probably have to tear out some trim, drywall, floors. When you get to subfloors/joists/studs, if you still have smell, you could try the odorfix, and cover with plastic for days. Hopefully that will help you to not have to replace those...

Being a painting contractor, we run into a lot of homes, rentals with pet and tobacco smoke problems. Painting the inside walls will not remove the odors as they are impregnated in the drywall, carpet, upholstery and drapes making the home harder to sell, or rent looks good smells badly. If you have to repaint, the inside walls add the Air-ReNu additive, works like a charm, no odor, no electricity, no filters. Air-ReNu is a permeant solution to odor and poor indoor air. Something to consider if you have an odor problem, their web site. www.ionicpaint.com

Let me premise by saying this is probably a great product. However you can not eliminate cat urine from carpet. It soaks through the pad and down to the sub flooring. I learned the hard way by purchasing a house that had 4 cats living in it. They destroyed the carpet. The only way to get rid of the smell was to rip it out and then paint the sub flooring with Kilz max paint. I would say this product would work if you saw the cat pee right in front of you but long term you can not remove the horrific smell caused by cats.

What makes, cat urine smell? The odor is made of invisible gases that have vaporized from the source. These vaporized urine odors float in the air attaching to the suspended dust particles. Al paint additive has been developed, that converts any newly painted wall surface, into a perpetual air, purification system no electricity or filters required. The Air-ReNu, technology permanently maintains healthy indoor air quality and eliminates offensive odors. One treatment will last 10-12 years.
