How to Elevate Your Contact Finishing Skills (No Partner Needed) 💪🏻

Спорт

Finishing with contact is clearly not a skill that is easy to train by yourself. But that's not to say it's not doable with some creativity! Check out four qualities that we can train by ourselves to boost our contact finishing ability.

    Finishing workout: - stationary two foot finish - one step into two foot finish - finish on the way down - finish on the way down (switch hands mid-air) - extendo finish - fall into off balance finish

    I learned to play basketball on my own and I never knew you could bump and make contact and all that, so I never did any layups. Thanks for the videos

    The most important thing about finishing through contact is you can't fear the contact and that's a mentality most players don't my style of play is if you gonna be there when I get there may the best win

    Never thought about that tbh. Approach each drive as if the contact will be waiting for you and just have the mentality that I will go right through you. Noted!! Thanks!

    Lmao the other day my mum was telling me how I miss too many contact layups in game

  • @maskedky
    @maskedky Жыл бұрын

    Coach you don't miss! I needed this so bad, I hadn't hooped for like 4 months until yesterday bc of injury and I was missing a handful of contact layups, layups I know I should and normally do make at a much higher clip. I started to make them towards the end tho so there was a bit of a silver lining. Thanks for this vid so much. And I have a quick question for u or for anyone who reads this. I work on so many counters in practice/training. I know they're supposed to be instinctual in a game and sometimes it does happen instinctually but how come in game situations alot of times I'm not *automatically* utilizing those same counters in game that I do in practice, such as a euro or even a simple between the legs? Any advice helps please.

    It takes time and lots of reps to be able to efficiently make a read. If you don’t use it in game it means you haven’t practiced it enough, and don’t have the confidence to use it in game since it never pops in your head Keep working on the counters and always do specific game like drills

    @@maskedky depends on your playstyle. Everyones different. I haven’t seen you play so I can’t give you 100% accurate tips. Drills you should implement if you are working solo should be game speed scenarios, incorporating the moves you want into each finish, or each shot. Do a different move each time Work on making sure that it’s all refined

    @@ry_an. id say my playstyle is Jordan Poole, Kyrie, steph, Ja morant kinda hybrid. I love breaking defenders down and taking them off the dribble to the basket and ofc shooting from mid range and 3 and I've been working as much as possible to become a more shifty/fluid ball handler. Coach knows exactly what he's taking about. And thanks so much for your tips, pointers and support. Definitely will be implementing this!

    First: Heal up and *all the way* . If the physio ain't done with you, keep at it till it's done. Too many people fuck they shit up from goin in too quick. And then *keep going* . Don't stop at the same physic you had before the injury, make those weaknesses, if anything, close to your strengths. Second. You need to practice those drills. At least twice back n forth on a full court of all reps. And do that 2x or 3x a week for 2wks to a month, till the move sinks in. It has to be almost automatic for.. ..the Third part: Practice in pick up games. Pickup game scenario will be slower the Season game scenarios, but once you catch the reads and how and when, game time will just feel a bit sped up but not unknown territory. Fourth: Try a drill facing the basket with cones or anything, with both cones foot width apart and flat (as if the feet of a defender) and do the drills with a flat defense x10, then switch the cones one more forward and one more backward (as if the defender was reaching or trying to block off your left/right and showing a top foot you need to attack). Ideally though, do it with someone. At first the person doesn't move for the first set x10 makes. Then he lunges with the left foot 10 times slowly, then the right x10 slowly, the unpredictably x10 slowly. Step 2 is speed up the unpredictable drill to 50% speed for a set, then 70%, then 90% etc. Until you feel you got it.

    Great drills but, just go out and do layups. Watching other people is not the way you get better. That last drill is not necessary. Just keep it simple get your reps in.

    So what you’re telling me is that doing basic layups with no defense over and over again will get you better at going up against a 6’10” big man and finishing over them? 😂 come on man. If that was the case, everyone would be able to do it.
