Sorry if this has been asked already but I have swapped in a ej20x and retained the twinscroll setup by swapping over just the vf40 turbine housing to continue to utilize the ej255 intercooler and blow off valve. I have also manually adjusted exhaust gears one tooth. the base ignition timing is quite different between the 255 and 20x, I know it is recommended to pull some timing out of the stock map. how close to the ej20x numbers should the lgt basemap be? OS with tatrix and ecuflash/romraider. if you have a link to what has worked for you guys that would be awesome, I understand all cars are different but i feel like the ignition timing should more closely resemble the ej20x map.

Can you do this to a WRX.? Harness and ecu all different maybe.? I have same swap as yours into a 09 wrx and there is a 2015 wrx with locked up motor, i was thinking on putting my motor in it.

Jdm swapping the 15+ wrx is a mission. Eventually when I get the opportunity id make a vid on it. But the 15+ will not accept and EJ engine.

ur missing fact tho its an open deck block like the 205 was but with updated heads rods and pistons

I feel Subaru engines can run more reliably if they get more fuel under boost, idle & normal driving. Subaru made it conservative as much they could to get more mpg.

Sorry for the ignorance, but what’s the advantage of the jdm 20y? Cheaper? Power? Is there any government issues putting an older engine in a newer car? Thanks and very impressive work.

No worries! Mostly this a cost effective replacement solution. They are very capable engines in stock form up to 350whp. They would have all emissions items intact and functioning as before. Actually after a tune a they are more fuel efficient then the original 2.5. I cant see anywhere other then california having an issue with replacing a motor. In reality they would never know though.

I'm lost, you used the jdm 2015+ sti ej20 into 2015+ usdm sti? Retaining the jdm's twin scroll and all that? That's not what's going on here, or is it? Cause that would be the awesome thing to do.

We used a jdm “ej20y” they typically are found in japanese 08-14 wrx’s they do come twinscroll, you can use the twinscroll stuff but that requires twinscroll downpipe. We used the domestic sti’s exhaust and turbo in this swap.

@@TheSubieSanctuary yea my interest would basically do the engine of the last final edition of VA JDM EJ20 with the twinscroll into the left hand car. with the twin scroll. I can imagine there's a good reason why it must be so much better but i wonder if that requires ecu, electric or any other issue with it. that would be a nice project you could do.

@@dwori the jdm va 207 with twinscroll would work in our usdm va sti without issue on our usdm ecu. Just need a tune. Those engines are typically half the price of a va sti. Still too new to be affordable, but the 207’s are unbeatable in reliability and rev range

Are oil control valves the same from 255/257 to ej20x/20y

Yes and no. 15+ 255 is no applicable. Would need to be more specific. 08+ 257 and ej20y have same intake and exh control valves if that helps

No freaking way you can swap a 20X/Y on a '15-'20 STi.. So will the JDM exhaust AVCS work the same as on the USDM STi? Any issues with the wire harness at all? I'd image everything is plug and play right, since the USDM STi is also dual AVCS.. You guys rock!

It is all plug and play. It’s just an open deck 2.0 instead of a semi closed 2.5 which has its ups and downs to both.

Yes, if the 20y comes with a plastic manifold then it was from legacy or possibly jdm gr wrx.

@@kiritowow2736 yes! Again, easiest approach is just swap your complete intake manifold on it. Their harness will be on wrong side of jdm manifold compared to usdm.

Typically these engines are 1200-1500us then whatever a shop charges for a longblock swap.
