Nice work. I would also add a caution to people who use warp tools to manipulate the bodies of one's subjects. Sure you can make them look more flattering and "ideal", but people can also go way too far with the warp tools making things look unrealistic, and it could be insulting to a model if you alter their bodies.

That's definitely something you have to discuss with the model prior to the shoot and prior to the edits.

Hi Justin! I wonder which editing/capture software you use for your videos?
Great vid but one thing to note, try to avoid talking about specific numerical values in camera raw sliders as beginners will take this too literal and try to replicate those exact settings and end up disappointed.

I think you missed a point as to how you removed the shadow on her sweater in the front. You go from one image to the next still talking about exposure and colour etc then magically the shadow on her sweater disappears. How did you do that?
@justinlaurens
Жыл бұрын
Um I think I know what you're talking about... I probably removed it when I applied my Skin retouching to the face & body (sometimes I will retouch tonal inconsistencies in the clothes too, to create a cleaner look). I use the same methods for that. Does that help?
@PeterPreager

@@justinlaurens Not really but at least I see what you did. Which tool do you use for skin retouching? If I use the AI portrait retouching in LrC or the new masking features just released do you know if it will give me similar results as what you have done in your image? Thx.
@justinlaurens
Жыл бұрын
I use a special form of frequency separation and local dodge & burn, which I teach in my course. Skin retouching is honestly the most important and nuanced aspect of portrait editing and it would be impossible to cover everything in a KZread video. There’s a lot to consider. I’ve tried using other AI features but the results are never nearly as good as taking the time & care using professional methods.

Awesome video man, the saturation and vibrance section really helped a lot! Also kind of off topic, but how did you get the magnifying circle around your cursor? I'm not sure if that's basic knowledge but that would be super helpful in editing 😂

Every is fine with me, I'm well known with the tips, and thank you for perfecting them. Just if I may, and excuse me... I wanted to let you know that models shouldn't be thinner than they are. It drives girls insane, and sometimes can cause mental issues. Perfecting the shot and colors is one thing- Changing nature is a different topic. Thanks

@@justinlaurens Usually people edit the waists and other body parts fyi, but indeed I truly loved your tutorial. Very educational- Good job.
Color grading was great, but the skin retouching and using the liquify tool went a bit too far into the "unhealthy amount of photoshop" direction...

It is just to correct the awkward posture not to change the way the model looks. She was hunched over and it made her look wider than she is in real life it was an unflattering illusion that she would not have accepted in her current form simply because it’s not an accurate representation. It’s a simple correction I’m not suggesting people use Liquify to make their models slimmer than they are.

@@justinlaurens i understand your point and why you did it, yet i feel it is somewhat "misleading" to other people that would take a picture in that pose and think "how does she look that thin whilst posing like that?" @@justinlaurens I thought that bridge and wheel looked familiar.
I really appreciate all the tips about shooting in direct sunlight, but the editing side of this feels a bit too much. That might just be my personal taste but I think if you took everything you did (especially the liquify) and dialled it back about 50-70% it would be a more flattering, but still realistic end result.

Imo using and promoting liquify as shown in this video is neither a good nor healthy choice at all, alongside with the overdone skin retouching. Especially as the changes aren't subtle at all. Been there, done that - for years.

Yea, its to much fakery going on here... The color grading was great, but the rest was pure fakery.
Talk about over editing. You keep increasing saturation overall and then taking it back down in hsl rather than just adjust individual colors from the start
@justinlaurens
Жыл бұрын
Yeah that’s not a good idea lol you want to bring up global saturation so that it’s even and then fine tune. If you thought it was over editing you wouldn’t have clicked the video 🤦🏼♂️
Great video but the fact that this models perfect body had to be "corrected" by the smallest amount with liquify because the stomach wasn't "flattering" is why so women have body image issues. Wildly disappointing.
@justinlaurens
3 ай бұрын
🤦🏼♂️ I didn’t enhance her stomach or make it slimmer than she normally looks. I corrected an illusion created by her posture. Lens Correction inside LR also makes people look slightly slimmer. Next you’ll say that’s “wildly disappointing”.
