Thanks Ginny glad yoh enjoyed it! Yeah high pass is such an amazing filter when used right, it's definitely one of my favourite sharpening tools

@@AstroFarsography with regard to the high pass filter I realised when playing with it that it is possible to change the layer mode within the filter window from 'replace' to whatever you wish to do with it which makes it much easier to see how the filter is interacting with the layer below before you commit to the settings.

As someone very new to astrophotography, your tutorials and demonstrations have been so helpful! I saw your video had been posted and after seeing we could do it along with you using your file, I went straight to the laptop to give it a go. Very insightful and hopefully once I have a colour camera I can use some of the techniques here to improve my own images. Cheers Ruz, top man!

I have seen that one but not had any data of my own to try it out with and didn't realise you'd made some available for that - I know what I'm doing later 😁

Great tutorial Ruzz Gimp is a pretty powerful tool to use.

Many thanks for doing this demonstration. I have had many problems processing lunar images using GIMP and this will help. In retrospect, I think that problems were caused by oversharpening using wavelets in Registax and underexposed images. But I took some new images on Friday night and will have a go at processing them in GIMP.

Great video cheers. Downloaded and followed along, thanks for explaining the HiPass. Would love something similar on a faint nebula or galaxy, I often struggle bringing out details without overloading the background noise.

Thanks for a great tutorial on GIMP. I haven't really used it before. Do you find this offers advantages or additional capabilities over Photoshop in certain (or all) cases?

excellent tutorial, thank you vary much. Doing these steps on my own picture, I noticed a yellowish stain on the edge of the moon, due to CA, I think. Is there a way to get rid of it?

I do step by step the same treatments as the video but my moon just turns blue... I can't understand why, does anyone have an explanation?

Each moon image is different so you may need to use slightly different settings. If your moon is turning blue I try changing your white balance/colour temp to a warmer setting
