Thank you so much for the demonstration on natural flower prints on fabric. Your results are stunning. I am from India, heading an NGO helping the underprivileged women in the community. Teaching this to the women will help them a lot for earning their money. Can you please explain how you pre treat the fabric, as well how you do a dye work after the eco print. Thank you once again, God Bless you.

In the past I have placed my fabrics in vinegar to soak overnight, but ecoprinting generally involves a diluted soy milk with a three turn saturation. Letting the fabric soak over night for three consecutive nights, taking it out for a solid wringing between soaks. It is then ready for the wooden hammer and board. I hope this helps and that your endeavors in India are productive. ❤
I think the rolled one with no dowel turned it the prettiest!
Thank you!! This Vid was extremely informative, and the end result was beautiful. Will keep watching the others. Love your handsome cat.
Nice work and I love that you stress using recycled and reusable plastic for your barrier layer.
That was excellent!! Thank you for sharing, and how cool you can just go for a walk and find such great dye flowers!!
WOW I don't know which I love most, the flowers and prints, or the kitty! This is awesome!

I love how the yellow flowers turned bright orange/red with hints of yellow. I have bought meters of plain linen to try this as well as cotton, thank you for sharing I think I will,have to dive down the rabbit hole just to learn a lot more about this just to find out what flowers I can use.🤗🤗🤗

Did you mordant your cotton fabric?
How amazing!!! Thank you beautiful young lady for this easier method to dying with flowers. Very cool. I will keep watching for any setting step.♥️ Thanks for the tip that you do not have to dry fabric first.👌 Congratulations on your baby!Babies, as I hear them in background.🥰
Absolutely fantastic tutorial. I’ve learnt so much and what stunning results xxx
Thanks! That was easy to understand- although I'm sure there's a lot more to learn. Also, your cat is exceptionally good looking.
I appreciate that you address EVERYTHING in this video - lightfastness, sustainability, mordanting, fiber choice, bundle versus other methods, etc. * subscribed *

Did you scour and mordant the cotton fabric? If so do you have a tutorial? This is the most clear understandable tutorial. Thank you… I’ve spent hours looking for one.
Are these washable?
You might discuss this in another video, but what would you recommend for pre-treatment of the fabric to encourage a strong bond between fabric and dye? Natural vs chemical pre-treatments...? Also, do the results vary depending upon the fabric choices? I really liked the effect of the smaller piece of bamboo silk, but am wondering if the effect would be similar if using cotton, upcycled denim, etc...?

ABSOLUTELY LOVELY you and your dying prints. And your teaching methods. I too am teacher and I am learning from you! NEW SUBBY
Ohhh Thank you! thank you! thank you! How ABSOLUTELY LOVELY! I’m new to eco printing. I attempted it years ago after following some rather poor instructions. (Or lack of) I had no idea what a mordant was and was told to steam in vinegar? After hours of collecting lovely wildflowers I got one single print...that looked like someone stepped on a rusty spider. The cloth itself looked like it molded. I was disheartened to say the least. You have given such thorough instructions, I feel inspired again! In fact, It’s 3am, i can’t sleep and am resisting the urge to get printing! 😂 I have almost EVERYTHING you’re using! Even the exact steamer and even FLOWERS! (I live in the mountain desert of NM, so flowers are rare) This year my 4 o clock perineal bushes went crazy and even bloomed new bushes in every crack nook and cranny! I literally have thousands of luscious bright hot pink flowers (my 4 o clock) and fields of country daisies (I think that’s what they are, they’re very similar to what you’re using) I have NO MORDANT. Ferrous sulfate sounds SO familiar. I feel like i have some around here somewhere? Idk if I’m overtired or it was prescribed to me for something? Im not sure how the mordant process even works. I’m getting ready to watch the links you suggested. Perhaps I can find something.🤞 Can you please tell me how the hot pinkish red 4oclocks print. They’re so lovely and vibrant when they bloom, but instantly turn black when they fall off and die. I’m not sure how to place them either? They’re similar to a morning glory in that you can’t spread out petals and press. Also.. I have purple...weeds (although I’ve been told it might be Milo) that are so lovely. Does purple work as well? Sorry so long! You’ve just really inspired me! After my initial disappointment & all these years I thought I’d never try it again. I’m a biologist/zoologist environmentalist and artist. I want to eco print so badly for a botanical junk journal I’m creating! You’ve given me both the tools and knowledge and inspired my heart again! 🙏🏼!

Hi!! So exciting!! Sadly, vinegar is suggested as a mordant quite often online and it does absolutely nothing to help the dye bind onto fiber. I’ve never worked with 4 o’clocks before but many pink flowers don’t print very well. It’s worth trying once you have your fiber properly mordanted. I hope that you enjoy your printing projects! 💗
I had heard of eco dying but never seen it done, thank you! Excellent demonstration. I grow lots of zinnias, black eyed Susan, fox glove and a Mexican sunflower with 2-3 inch orange flowers. I'm going to try this!! @Debra L Pate Art

Do you talk about over dyeing in any of your other videos, and if not would you? I’ve seen short videos of people doing it but I’d like to know more of the details of it before I try it myself.
Thank you so much! I loved your demonstration, could you please let me know whether the water had anything in it or was it plain water. I appreciate your response!
Jamie, could you reply to the order of the material you used? I thot you said one was silk? Which one was that? And which one used the Fe? Did you unwrap them in the same order as you wrapped them? It would be nice if you could write the name of the flower you used, I don't have a good short-term memory and I have difficulty hearing you or reading your lips. 😊😊 Thank you. This will be a new hobby for me.

Hi... your result is absolutely amazing. I’ve been trying to get good results using this technique but the results are quite discouraging. I don’t have iron for the mordant so I’m using alum. Can you please guide me regarding your iron solution? It will be greatly helpful
@thebarefootdyer
2 жыл бұрын
Hi! I like to use a very weak iron solution of a little less than 1% WOF. I make it with ferrous sulfate powder and warm water. Are you working with cellulose fiber?
@nialia6814
2 жыл бұрын
@@thebarefootdyer yup I’m working on 100% cotton fabric. It is very hard to find ferrous sulphate where I live and it is quite expensive if you get lucky to find some. I’ve been searching for a good mordant recipe for quite some time and all the recipes I’ve found ask for ferrous sulphate which is not possible for me to acquire.
@thebarefootdyer
2 жыл бұрын
@@nialia6814 If working with cotton, alum isn’t an adequate mordant on it’s own. It needs help binding to the cotton from an assist like tannin. You can also make iron water by soaking rusty metal in vinegar - it’s just a bit harder to determine how much iron is present in the solution. I cover mordanting extensively in my online course and mini course if you’d like to learn more: thebarefootdyer.thinkific.com/courses/foundational-elements-of-natural-dyeing-cleaning-pre-treating-fiber

Hi I know this my be a silly answer but what about iron tablets from the chemist it is after all ferrous sulphate all you would need to do is to crush the tablet to a fine powder and you can use this. Sorry I was just watching one of Barefoot Dyer’s videos when I remembered I had to take my tablets and one of them is the iron tablet so I looked it up and it’s the same stuff mentioned in the video just in tablet form for people to take when their iron levels are down🤗🤗🤗

Absolutely beautiful! I know everything naturally faded over time but how long do you think your item will last? What washing instructions do you usually give people for longevity?
@thebarefootdyer
3 жыл бұрын
Hi Tatiannah! Thank you! If the fiber is properly pretreated (scoured & mordanted) and a colorfast plant is used, the color should last for quite a long time. Naturally dyed items can be washed with your normal laundry. It’s best to use a plant derived free & clear detergent.
