There was a 2 year period of time my husband lived in a hotel in other town working (job paid) we frequently visited and got to enjoy the free breakfasts and pool but made it work financially by bringing a crockpot, an electric skillet, and using the hotel bbq pit to cook meals. It was such a fun time we all look back fondly at.

Hope BJ is feeling better soon. That's what we always do when traveling - breakfast and lunch always, and dinner sometimes. We traveled across country before microwaves doing that. My mom packed an electric coffee pot and a toaster. We had cereal and toast every morning, sandwiches on the road for lunch. Way cheaper than eating out. When I was traveling a few years back I made a minipantry in the back of my van out of plastic drawers - it was perfect!

I LOVE your idea of a mini-pantry out of plastic drawers. It would keep everything organized and clean. Plus, with the new cars nowadays, many have electrical outlets in them. I'm thinking that one could plug in an electric skillet or a hotplate and you can cook food while at a rest area (if it didn't draw too much electricity. I suppose you could find this out before leaving home).

We traveled for a month and ate motel breakfast when it was included in price. Otherwise used our coffee maker to make cream of wheat when there wasn't a microwave. Also had instant grits, instant rice, canned soups and meats. Had walnuts, dried fruits and our splurge was v8 for when we couldn't get veggies. Ate out lunch, sharing a subway sandwich loaded with veggies. Brought bowls, spoons, forks, one 2 cup glass measuring cup and so important, ceramic mugs. Coffee tastes so much better in a mug. Carried small ice chest for carrots, string cheese and apples.

Aldi does have bags! You do have to pay for them (5-10 cents each) and they're usually tucked in a hard-to-spot cubby under the conveyor belt at the register, but the plastic ones are sturdier than normal grocery bags and can be reused several times! But grabbing boxes is a great free option, too!

I Googled it a little and had a hard time finding something out but now you know the brand at least! Maybe you get lucky! 😁 Hugs from Sweden! 💝💖💗💜

Living in a hotel room temporarily. I did after a surgery once. My ideas: The ready made potato salad, pasta salads,, shredded cheese or cheese sticks, pretzels (My go to salty crunchy food), instant mashed potatoes (easy to eat after surgery and possible in a microwave), eggs (you can do in the microwave, check out youtube!). Handy to bring with is a hotplate or hot water kettle. We usually drove and bring one pan, one microwavable plate, bowl, cup and then disposables. Packing light is hard when you are frugal:) THAT'S my excuse, lol:)

We shopped Aldi yesterday. It is the best. Quality food and low prices. Seedless grapes for 89 cents a pound!!!! ORGANIC mixed greens, 16 ounces for $3.49!!!! Five ounces of mixed organic greens is that same price at Walmart. You get 3 times for the same money and the quality is better than my Walmart. And too much more to list here (or bore you with). Give it a chance if you tried it once and didn't like it. I did, years ago; but my mom loved it and I decided to give it a second chance and I am SO glad I did. They guarantee their products to be as good or better than name brands and if you are unhappy with any product they will 1. replace it and 2. refund your money!! You get another product plus your money back!! No other retailer I know of does this. There is no risk. I keep a quarter in my car and bags in my trunk. If you forget your bags, you can find some empty cartons in the store or buy bags for pennies, and they are NICE. Or just push your groceries to your car and put them in the trunk until you get home, then bag them in the trunk and carry them in if you have a lot. I love that they make you put a quarter in to get a cart. Most people won't walk away from a quarter and that means no buggies left in the parking lot and no way for them to hit your parked card b/c they are chained tog by the front door.

When I have been traveling by myself I would do a bowled Caesar salad from Aldi, sometimes for both lunch and dinner. Was in Holland and one store had a prepacked with smoked chicken with pear with a quality plastic spork. When travelling to Queensland we chose hotels with free buffet all you could eat breakfasts. We filled up with that and we were all good until 3pm snack time! And then dinner. I have heard of an Australian family back in the 90s who were going to Disneyland. They pretty much packed heaps of the Maggi noodles in their luggage and they ate that and peanut butter sandwiches for the week out of the hotel.

I don't get it. It's not that difficult to buy food in a motel where you often have a fridge and microwave. Aside from not using an oven or store, it's not that different from home unless you really were a cook. On the road it's easy....cereal (hot or cold) for breakfast or yogurt and fruit, and for lunches/dinners you can easily make sandwiches, salads, and soups. If you are really lazy, you can do TV dinners as well.

I'd like to have a few small electric cooking gadgets, like skillet, rice cooker, maybe even electric kettle, pack them in a cooler. Have a study back inside to transfer your kitchen stuff over, and then on the way to the hotel hit up the grocery store and pack the cooler, then when you get to hotel, visit ice machine and put ice in your cooler. Now you're good for a week.

Oh, an elevator! Where I work, they load the cart, push it inside the building and then find out there is no elevator and their room is upstairs. :P

Good job Tawra...great meal ideas for hotel living with minimum space. By the way, did you bring your electric kettle so you could boil water for tea? I'm praying BJ get's some good news and gets to feeling better soon. Loved your Mom & Dave's show Monday with y'all chiming in. Looking forward to tonight's episode. Have a Blessed day.
