I use this a fair amount for catfishing. I know it as the knotless knot but it’s very effective. Just make sure to give the knot a nice little pull so it can’t unwind

I only do this if the eye of your hook is angled like this one. But some circle hooks are completely inline then I just hit it with a uni knot.

It’s a great knot but it’s not the snell knot the smell knot is a better alternative. That knot you need the front end of the leader free to tie so doesn’t work unless you change your leader every time. That knot is mostly used in carp fishing for a hair rig presentation. The snell knot however can be tied from just the end of the leader.

I agree with the snell being a good option but depending on the species I wouldn't go with this version. This is also known as the knotless knot. The issue with it is there's nothing actually holding the wraps tight. It relies purely on pressure being pulled away from the hook. It's fine for most fish but any fish that makes fast runs id avoid it. If they run fast and then release that pressure this knot tends to want to come loose. The release of pressure causes it to slip. I've seen guys put a tiny dap of glue on the last wrap to avoid that but on a bigger saltwater fish I'd avoid it still. Inshore you're probably fine. Through my very unscientific testing there's a kind of odd version that holds strongest. You send the line through about 5 inches, fold it back over creating a small loop, wrap the tag end back over itself towards the eye, push the non tag end up a bit to create an opening above the eye, send the tag through that and then tighten. It leaves a tag end pointing away from the hook which you snip off. Leave maybe 1/8". That version has two points of pressure and a knot. With 40lb mono, that version doesn't slip or break until 32lbs of pressure. I use a spring scale and slowly apply pressure. Not a laboratory testing system but I trust it. The knotless knot does well at 25lbs so it will certainly catch fish.

You can tie it in "reverse so to speak if your leader is already attached to the main line. Feed the line through the loop and give it some slack. Place the end of the line aligned with the hook. Then take your slack and open it in a circle and pass the hook through the circle while keeping the end of the line flush with the hook. Once finished looping pull tight on the main line. Similar principle to how people tie the drop shot knot. (Not the Palomar, the knot named drop shot knot)

I would tie it onto a nice swivel. Idk what it is but I love the snell knot.

Thats the crap way of doing it. The best way is with the two ends under the wraps. Neat, perfect and won't come loose.
