- Fiebing's Oil/ Pro leather dyes
- Nettsfoot oil / fish oil / linseed oil
- Finish (resolene in this case)

    Hi Creative Awl, Quick questions, if you don't mind! - Doesn't the neatsfoot oil darken the colours too much? - Does linseed darken it less than neatsfoot? - Do you use it pure or compound? - Can you just go with resolene after dying without oil? Thanks! Gilles Belgium

    Thank you for showing us. With black pro dye I need to rub it off with a cotton cloth. I’m surprised you don’t do that here. Maybe the resolene bath took care of it?

    Thats true with black one. I've drop just a little of dye on it so leather just soak in all of it.

    Hello, i would use resolene mixed with water at least 50:50 or use eco-flo satin shene

    Thanks, this is exactly the information I needed. But a question...when putting on the dye, how do you prevent it from getting onto the underside and leaving splotches of color there?

    Use less dye, its soaking through.

    Yes the same exact technique can be applied to both water and alcohol based dyes. Just dilute water with water and alcohol with a solvent.

    OLD LEATHER SMITH here, Great Job, Suggestions, try a wide squat cosmetic brush it leaves a unique pattern similar 2 what you have but different, I'm old I still prefer Bees wax instead of eco flow. Just suggesting, GOD'S BLESSINGS ✝️⚾️🙃

    Yeah, you should. Ive really did that but any excess didnt left on the surface so i miss that part on video but i should mention about that.

    Buff with a rug or a towel. What type of leather do you want to restore?

    natural veg tan + Fibing pro dye, it became too dry, lost its naturalness.

    @@fhng veg tan is extremely dry and stiff. You could add neatsfoot oil to soften it up but its never going to be soft as chrome tanned.

    Yes, while dyeing with dilluted dye the blotch will be not visible or will be possible to shade with additional layers of dye.

    Wouldn't appling neatsfoot oil to the leather them sealing with resolene not work because the resolene does not stick to the oiled leather?

    It stick so well but oil needs at least 12 hours to soak in

    Standard kitchen sponge but i suggest to use any other stiffer sponge.

    Usually it does need a finish or( resist), but you can leave it as is. Its going to rub off and be dry and look unfinished.

    Do you only need to use oil after dying or does all leather need to be treated with oil before sewing? Or is it typically pre-treated?

    Hello, only hand-dyed leather needs to be oiled to make it more flexible but to be clear you can oil almost any leather which has been not finished. Depends of your/leather needs.

    How long do you let the resolene dry? Mine always stays sticky

    You can use white acrylic paint in thin layers its not as perfect as say white chrome tanned pre dyed but it is very resilient and it looks fairly good. Id probably finish it with some type of a resist just in case so it doesnt chip the trick is light watered down coats.
