    I want to dye a knee length dress. would I be able to use a pool noodle that could bend to fit in my pot.?

    great video! Im wanting to dye the white zebra stripes on a terry cloth cotton blend throw blanket. I have a rainbow zebra rug & pillow Id like it to match. Would saturating the blanket in the dye affect the preprinted black stripes? It'd be too hard a task to attempt at stripe by stripe so I just either turn all the white stripes pink but use your eye drop method to maybe add in darker color in random spots. I still want the black to stay black so it doesn't take away from the zebra print. Is this possible? Thanks in advance

    Yes, the black should stay black, so what you want to do would work. Assuming the other part of the cotton blend is polyester, you may not be able to get fully saturated colors or dark colors because the polyester part of the blend won't dye with this Rit dye. This means it will dye lighter than it would for 100% cotton. But if the cotton percentage is high, it shouldn't affect it too much.

    Will work with other dyes, just follow the directions that came with the dye to set. Other than that, if you look closely, they don't add other colors until after the cloth is saturated. So full, it's dripping off. If you allow more to drip off, start with your light colors, and work into darker ones, this will always work. Just get your cloth wet first, don't really wring it out, let run out, a light squeeze, pat it.

    wouldn't 10 minutes of soaking in dye permeate all the fabric yarn through capillary action ? I tried this with coffee (not dye) and it dyed all the (well worn) cotton fabric. Could that be because my tying was not tight enough or because coffee behaves differently from dye because of different surface tension ?

    It must be that dye behaves differently. It doesn't need to be tied all that tightly to work with dye. I'm just guessing, but maybe it's because the dye pigment doesn't pass through fabric as easily. The water in the dye bath may permeate all the fabric, but the actual pigment may have a have a harder time reaching and saturating all parts. It's interesting that the coffee didn't work the same way.

    The tie needs to be tighter.

    Yes, it would work well with silk. Just use white vinegar instead of salt in the dye bath.

    what kind of different between remazol and rit dye?

  • @onlinefabricstore

    @onlinefabricstore

    8 жыл бұрын

    Remazol is a type of fiber reactive dye, meaning it has a chemical reaction with the fibers that creates a more permanent bond than Rit dye. Fiber reactive dyes are more colorfast and can produce more intense colors than multi-purpose union dyes, like Rit dye. Rit dye is generally considered easier to use and more versatile than fiber reactive dyes.

    Rit dye isn't the best dye for cotton and color retention. What you need is fiber reactive procion dye. Once you've rinsed and washed, your color will be there forever. Bright, bold and amazing. Try dharmatrading. Or there are others, that's just the one I use. The tutorial is good, thank you. Going to try some socks on PVC today. :)

    @@gifthorse9779 As long as it has soda ash in the kit it will be colorfast. You can get tulip brand kits that are colorfast, read the label before choosing. In bulk Dharma trading is the best supplier but for a small amount Hobby Lobby, Michaels Craft, JoAnns Fabric kits with a coupon are very reasonable.
