You should always wet your item before you dip it in the die so the die distributes evenly throughout your item.

There are dyes for natural fibers and dyes for synthetic. Just make sure you buy the right one. The packaging will say what materials the dye will work with.

Depends. This dye won't affect nylon patches but cloth patches will.

Befee you dye you can try rubbing in Vaseline with a Q-tip from both sides to clog the pores of the fabric followed by rubber cement to waterproof it. Both will wash off with laundry detergent but the Vaseline will help prevent sticking.
